Hey all, i swear i tried the search but.. anyways my question is the following.. how to fit the sub bass with the BL ? Is this a matter of throwing some low cut, or high pass filter, or whatever on the bass line so the low frequencies dont fight each other? theres the kick problem also.. its low frequency can mix with the sub when your not carefull, it also makes the sound crappy.. damn so many hurdles to overcome..
I hope my question sounds reasonable.. any feedback would be aprecciated. cheers

Depends what kind of sound you're going for, but usually you want to try to have either the kick or the bass reside in the sub region. Of course you can have both there, but this is going to make the rest of your mix sound very quiet and less powerful.

My personal preference is for the bass to be filtered off below 50Hz or so, giving it a nice 'in the chest' feeling. The kick I let slip down to 30 to 25Hz, but then filter the rest off. There are different ways to help get the bass and kick to fit together, especially using a side chainer on the kick to compress the bass every time it triggers.

Remember, less is more.

Hope that helps,

You don't need a special sub bass.
Just give a boost to the sub area of your "normal" bass.

Possibly the worst sub bass advice I've ever heard.

Jsainsbury - you got any better advice maybe you should spit it out

i my self also use to just add a sharp distinct boost on the root note of the bass.. sometimes it works sometimes not.. depends on the kickdrum, and what im after...

one advice for deep sub bass would be to put a deep non harmonic sinewave under some hits..
this one you could create your self in many different audio editors and that way controll the frequency amount and amplitude...

though like many other says this needs full attention and awareness of whats happening "down there" its useless to boost something you cant hear or feel, I.e if the speakers dont go that low...

a sub bass speaker is to prefere when you work with this frequenices...

Are you serious ? is that possible, can u make a track actually sound good doing that ? Im really curious, i thought a subbass layer was totally necessary..           "There are only two things that are infinite, the universe and human stupidity" -- Albert Einstein
