Missing the old days

I remember back in 2002 when i first joined the forum it was in a hyperactive mode. That is withing 4-5minutes of posting a thread or comment, a whole bunch of replies would come. The refresh button on my browser was used very frequently. Some funny, some lousy, some insightful, some stupid but nevertheless enjoyable.
With more members and more sections i would have imagined there would be more replies but what i have noticed is that people dont reply like they used to..maybe because of too much moderation and maybe users are scared of getting banned and dont like to receive warnings...i dont know what the reason is behind this.
The forum used to be full of active "participating users" now its just viewers.
The percent of people participating was 20-30% but now its down to 10% or less...is there some way the forum can be revived to its past glory or is it going down?

Thats absolutely not the reason that the majority of users doesnt post so much.
One of the main reasons for not posting so much (especially in the Trance section) is because after all these years the forum has more or less reached a point where most of the subjects recycle themselves and older users (like myself for example) are not willing to participate in discussions that have been posted here 2-3 times in the past.
Also in the past with less users participating the people felt more familiar with the forum and the rest of the users and we were more like a small family and you more or less knew who was going to reply in a topic and you had a small or big idea of who that guy was so the conversation was a little bit more personal lets say,in our days with all those users in the forum you dont have a clue who is on the other computer replying to your post which makes you wanting to participate less in public discussions.
When a forum grows to big it has its ups and downs,for the old users who are more familiar with the forum and the rest of the users when things get to big they feel like a fish out of their bowl of water

This forum needs a change in scene badly and needs to be less authoritarian. Changing the layout or something that draws people inside, something different would be a refreshing change even for the old users who might wanna keep returning just for the aesthetic quality of the forum, no matter whether topics have been discussed or not.
I know its easier said than done but one needs to keep re-inventing in order to not be termed boring, which is exactly what is happening here IMO. Sometimes i feel like im browsing in the year 1997.

If it's boring for you- make it different. It is you who write here.
Think of something interesting to discuss and start a discussion. If it is interesting people will take part.
Bitching is always easier that actually doing...
After I read your post I spent a couple of minutes thinking about something that interest me and raised it as a test (the 6-8 minutes topic)- and people have responded and there's even a discussion.
There was even a minor drama... hehe...
