I have a P4 2.4Ghz, 768ram, 60gb computer.
But lately my Cpu is running red hot on the Cubase Cpu meter.
It also ofton hangs.
I usually don't use that many Vst instruments, not nearly as much as I'd like.
Maybe 3 X Z3ta, 3 X Albino 2, 1 X Fxpansion Guru, 1 X Audiorealism Bassline and some FX, and at this point my computer starts to run real slow.

Should I update to an AMD Athlon 3800+ X 2, or would it still be possible to optimize my system?

In the end, I'd like to run at least 15 to 20 Vst's like Z3ta or Albino.

How about buying a 2nd 2.4Ghz PC and connecting it with FXteleport, would that double my system's Cpu power?

not exactly double, but it would let you breath a little bit better.

but at the end I guess you should get musically sure about what you're doing. lay down parts, bounce them with tapeit or with your host internal function. that's just an advise, as more cpu power gives you creative freedom.

maybe you wanna look up the thread about fx teleport that I wrote some time ago. I have pretty good results with an amd 2700+ & amd 64 3000+.

tapeit is amazing, not only for bouncing. it let's you record one shots and stuff you can't reproduce a second time. kinda like record all the accidents that happen while tweaking.

you can insert as many tapeit plugs whereever you want, for example before fx, after fx. you can bounce several tracks at once.

I don't see it as a disadvantage, but it takes the actual time of the sequence to bounce. cubase internal bounce should work a wee bit faster.           soundcloud.com/epsylohm

Do you use the freeze function in Cubase? This can save you tons of CPU.

If you can afford it... it will certainly give you more power.

Sheesh. I think you should change your working processes. Start using the freeze funtion!

If you do that, make sure whatever RAM you get will be compatible with a future upgrade of your CPU + motherboard.

i think ram is what u need at first point..

then try considering the freeeze function or possibly export your synths in audio files an work mostly with ram as undertow and rajaran said!

i dont think u can have 20 z3taz promptly working smooth!
