minimal...
just listen to this word , "minimal"!
every kid can make this music , even me !
yeah u right, "just say yes !"
in these times we all know how to build music (so so.. ) but not all of us have talent to make good musc ,the minimal trance open so many doors till even senseless guys do this music these days.
few sounds here , few sounds there ,some effects and ALRIGHT! we have another track to release.
even when there is a talent guy behind this music, this is very lame somehow!
the thesis :
minimal is not art , this is cheap fashion!
it take the trance two steps backward to nowhere.
this is what I think about this sub genre so far.
what do u think about this genre ?
P.S try not to be smart*** .
what if everyone of us will think positive about peace ?

Dear psydark_light...
For me minimal is a form of simple amusement and for one thing id like too add that groove is the keyword here... So tell me if its so simple too create the groove and "some effects" why arent u one of the top acts in the minimal scene? or any other kid? I mean if u know so much about it and have heard so much minimal that u can say all that above... Please we´ve had our definition wars here and its not a perfect time for more of it...
Be happy and listen too whatever u want too, and let people do the same!
Cheers man

again with this minimal nonsense......
You think is easy is? From what I rea and se alot of the people who make minimal that I know are trained musicians. I would say Alot of but many of the full on artist are just programmers have no Idea about melody, tempo notes like a classicaly train artist does. Every ones makes full because it is much easies to just stack alot of weird shit together and just shape it. In minimal you have create melodies gooves more song structures. Thats why people like skazi xenomorph and dark soho they make awesome full on because they play real instruments as well not just programmed shit.
There is no POINT.
I like both personally and there is both bad minimal and bad full on. ANd great producers make it look easy. What is the point of constantly to saying this is better than that. |

Well... I don't like minimal. I rarely hear minimal.
One main reason for that: It's my taste, I like when the music explodes in the right way. Some Minimal tracks have lots of groove (which I like), but they just don't release their energy (for me). I listen to Minimal in the same way I listen to Chill Out music.
However, unlike my friend psydark_light, I respect Minimal producers and Djs, and I even think it's easier to DJing Full On tracks than Minimal tracks. Maybe I'm wrong...
Some great minimal tracks: Ticon's Waiting for the Knights and Son Kite's Massive. These tracks have top production, are really nice and I like their groove, but they're not my cup of tea...

Don't limit yourself by saying "i don't like X subgenre". It's just not right... i'm a full on and goa lover, yet there are some minimal tracks which i like very much! by saying you don't like minimal, you're limiting yourself, and losing some great minimal tracks.
remember it's all about taste. keep an open mind about music! |

mmm...
Generelizing again... don't like it really.
Can you define please what you mean by minimal?
I'm in kind of a hurry, so meanwhile here are the words of one of the great musicians ever which I keep handy, someone who could really do it...
"First of all, I am a real Minimalist, because I don't do very much. I know some minimalists who call themselves minimalist but they do loads of minimalism. That is cheating. I really don't do very much."
- Robert Wyatt

Shahar , by saying minimal I mean minimal in the whole understandable expression
minimal - without melodies (mostly) ,simplex , featureless and so on...
anyway , try stick to the questions :
-what do u think about this genre ?
-what does it mean for the trance ?
I think that when people call minimal (don't call it psytrance), they actually define it as particular genre , not as psytrance.
it's like the israelis event "Nithonot" (whatever u call it) this is fashion and I think psytrance shouldn't be fashion.
the trance have great basics , wonderful history and the fashion kill the art of this genre.
this is what I think.
guys/girls , stick to the main points !
btw- Zombi ,think twice before u post , too much from u man !
I'm not full on fan , but art fan!
I will just ignore u from now , till u'll post some intelligent words.
try stick to the point next time!
what if everyone of us will think positive about peace ?

What is so burning with categorizing music?
a track is good?
what de heck matters what genre it is?
and BTW- it's not as easy as it might seem.
son kit (do they qulify? as mini.) Really kick ass, and have very complex and interesting music.

Psydark: if anyone should chill - it's not Zombi, he's well known in the forum as a levelheaded guy. And he doesn't personally attack music he doesn't like all the time, something which other people tend to indulge themselves in.
I think that minimal has a lot to offer. And I say this as someone who looks first of all for psychedelia in my music. Maybe instead of saying that every kid can create it and that it has nothing to offer, try doing something more challenging. Listen to it, understand it. Around late 2000, I thought basically the same as you. Then I listened to the music. And I mean REALLY listened to it. And as someone who didn't really like the direction full-on took psytrance after the goatrance era, it was hard to accept at first, since goa isn't really about grooves and control. But now, I listen mostly to it. It has a lot to offer, you just need to open your mind to it.

kaz , I agree with u about "this is nice to listen to minimal sometimes" , and I do like it SOMETIMES !
but this genre is still lame ,very lame actually!!! imo
did u ever think what is the point of this sub genre "minimal" ?
as I know , minimal is un complex psychedelic music as well as it isn't complex to make it! at least not as full psychedelic is complex to make. (I do have some experience in music creation , I have been in few studios in my life, don't be wise guy by asking me "why do I don't make it if it is so easy")
now I ask myself :
why is it minimal music ,why not to make "psychedelic music" without all these pointless expressions "minimal" "techtrance"?
I mean why do they make it so minimal ?
do they think people are so stupid that can't understand complicated music, or maybe they just think that this is much easy to make it , so why bother ?!
why ambient artist don't make mini/tech ambient genres?
maybe because they know that their music is good enough ,so people will like it even if they won't label it as sub genres!
I read ur posts carefully , I hope u will do the same before u reply.
think about it .
BTW son kite is behind the minimal direction, they have great knowledge and very powerfull music ,don't insult them by attached their to minimal direction!
another BTW - zombi is well known , but many times he is reply nonsense posts , I think that he could think a bit more and post something that stick to the topic with much more body in his message.
what if everyone of us will think positive about peace ?

You guys are not being fair.
Just like you know how to jump and say why we minimal / progressive lovers attack full on lovers, I expect you to act accordingly towards us.
And besides, come on, there is no us and them. There are no teams here.
I also could say that I really don’t understand how you ppl listen to full on. I could say I find this music stupid – so much noises that lead you nowhere, almost no melodies in today’s full on, only “full power”.
I also could say that minimal / progressive lovers are ppl that don’t ask for much. They know how to enjoy from the minimum, they are ppl who don’t need to show off, humble people.
I find minimal music very intelligent music. You don’t need all the “boom trach”.
But do you really want to open such a discussion again?
Come on people, grow up.
