Well, depends on your definition of minimal. AFAIK, the only one true minimal act in Israel is Evil Drug Lords, the rest are progressive, but not really minimal.

Each region of the world develops a sound somehow, because the artists work a lot more with eachother, the people have a lot in common when it comes to day to day life compared to people from far away... The German distinction is incredibly accurate and proffesional music, with a distinct view of extremely atmospheric music (examples: X-Dream, Shiva Chandra, Electric Universe, Midi Miliz, and even SUN Project). The Scandinavian sound is about beats and rhythms, focusing on building their music around a point (Weirdo Beardo, Logic Bomb, Son Kite, Vibrasphere, Tegma). The Israeli sound has always had it's own distinction - the energy of the track is what matters, the rest is just built around it (BLT, MFG, Sub 6, Psycraft, Psysex, Cosma, Oforia, Astrix).

Of course, there are many exceptions to these general rules - Triac definately don't make "Israeli" music but are much more German in their sound, Koxbox are just... Koxbox, and many other examples of when this mold doesn't hold - but for 95% of the cases, it's basically true.

The German and Scandinavian sounds are much more compatible with minimalism, as their focus is much more in line with minimal groovework and structure. And as much as things change, they stay the same. You can still pick out the country of origin of 90% of the music out there.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Good question. I was wondering that just the other day. Never heard any minimal from Israel (neither from Brazil ).
Maybe styles are geographically related... Or maybe, the crowd wants full on, they can stand some progressive, but minimal is too few for them (at least in Brazil it seems to be somehow like this).

EDL makes all kinds of music and they're not limited by style or feel.

This is of course a generalization and limited as such, but I guess it's just that Israelies are by nature not very minimal or subtle people.           ---------------------------------------------

Because most Israelis like full on, this is why.
But now it's starting to open up a bit.

You should try listening to Echotek           Majority is never right!

That's how the overview of European music connects with why there are not a lot of Israeli minimal acts. You need to base your point on an idea (at the very least), which I think I did.

And I wouldn't call Insect Sun or Lish minimal, but a few Israeli acts to add a touch of minimalism to their music.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
