Actually it's pretty simple I've found to come up with a euro design I like & that'll be it. It's a 12u rack for me. Once it's finished I'll move on to getting a few keyboards but not the MS-20 mini. I borrowed a friends & it's noisy & IMO useless unless you plan to spend half your time clearing up the sound to make it listenable. Or else be very limited in how hard you can push it.

Korg IMO are going downhill quickly. Givie me a minibrute, Bass station II or even Sub Phatty.

Right now my budget is looking at my 12u, minibrute & Prophet '08 desktop           Cuntus Maximus.

Half your time clearing up the sound?

That's complete bullshit. Most of the time when I need to de-noise the MS20 patch its as simple as cutting a bit off the top end where the noise resides. Takes all of 2 seconds...

The ms20 is all about weird modulating and patching. It sounds like you borrowed your friends for a couple days, focused on the noise issue and didn't take the time to explore the unit and the weird places you can go with it or do with it.

Yes, it has some noise in it, but in most patches and especially in the mix it is a non-issue compared to the raw character that the MS-20 gives you.

People spend years and years exploring the MS-20, to pick it up and casually dismiss it as 'useless' because it is noisy is complete foolishness.

It's one thing to say 'hey I don't like that design, I want something with X or Y or without this limitation' etc. For instance, I personally think the minibrute is very boring and limited in terms of its modulation so its not exciting for me - but I won't be calling it useless as many people are obviously finding use for it.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Oh dear someone has an opinion that doesn't match yours so you get all agro. Never grew in maturity beyond 13 did we?

Grow up kid. I've been around synths since 1988 when my oldest bro had a pro studio. And my bro had an original MS-20 which was around for a decade. The mini is even worse if you have any clue about electronics & synthesis. Yeah you can get some goodness out of it but give me a proper modular system any time.

I've been spending the last 6 months playing around with my bro's Buchla system & you def. get what you pay for. MS-20 mini is a toy, just like the minibrute.

They are low end cheap analogue synths made with low end bits n pieces. My mate has 2 of the mini MS-20's, and we pulled one apart completely. It's made with cheap bits. The advertising is a lie.

Its fine if you prefer a Buchla. Most people (that know what a Buchla is) would, but then again most people can't afford one.
Anyone would take a modular that costs 3-4 times (at least) of the price of the MS-20, its absurd to compare a budget synth like the MS-20, to even some of the cheapest, new modulars in the market. The cost for a basic 6U euro rack of budget Doepfer modules starts at least at 1,5k€
But that comment is harsh, maybe you got some units with more noise in them than the ones that are on demos on youtube. They certainly don't sound like units you would spend half your time de-noising them.

I've had lots of synths, including this

Lots of analog synths, and brand new modules for modulars, do have noise, some that are definitely worth getting, like the WASP VCF

are noisy, but then again they sound brilliant.

Then there are all the vintage synths that cost an arm and a leg. The Minimoog is noisy as well, its not stopping people from loving its sound and splashing out for it.

Maybe the MS-20 Mini is a toy, but people have used toy like synths to make brilliant tunes, many a times in the past.

Comparing a Buchla or a full modular system (or even a bare bones entry-level modular) to a MS-20 Mini is ridiculous and even making the comparison shows a lack of knowledge or seriousness in regards to the person making that comparison. $600 vs...thousands and thousands.

Calling you out on making a bullshit statement is not being aggro.

Please, however, if it floats your boat to put on the 'old timer here - you know nothing because I've been on the earth a bit longer than you' hat then you go for it old man. However, it doesn't make your posts any more valid.

Anyways, sorry for the derail Psilocybian, hoping to see that minibrute video soon            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Of course the demo's will sound perfect. They're selling a product yeah? They're not going to demo the negatives are they? That's be dumb marketing. And any other person given one to review will have been paid by Korg to give a positive review. It's basic marketing 101.           Cuntus Maximus.

Yes it's opinions & it's should be fun. I am also sorry if my opinions offended.

I'd just like to say that I do know that toy synths can be amazing, hence why a minibrute is on my list & I'm keen to try out the bass station sequel.

Yup the Bass Station 2 interests me. It has a Rolandy character. + the LFO goes well into the audio range, 2 VCOs nice features in general, and LFO that sync to MIDI, sequencer. Generally looks like something I would like to have in the studio for sure.

tried out both in person - bs2 is much much more versatile. bs2 has lots of great digital features like patch storage and digital control via your DAW over all the knobs

also the acid filter/overdrive sounds really sexy            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
