Dear Spring Equinox Attendees,

A serious matter concerning Mindoutpsyde Presents: Spring Equinox (Saturday March 21st, 2009) has just recently come about. Apparently there was a city ordinance passed in Des Moines in the 90's that prohibits the act of dancing past 2am. There are special permits that allow events to go well past 2am, and even permits that allow for the sale and consumption of alcohol past 2am, but there is no exception or permit for the "no dancing past 2am" Des Moines ordinance.

Unfortunately, the Des Moines police department just recently found out about this event, and Mindoutpsyde has done absolutely EVERYTHING in its power over the last 48 hours to reverse the decision of the Des Moines police department to enforce this law. After speaking with city council members, the absurd nature of the law has finally been brought to their attention and steps are being taken to abolish this law in Des Moines. Please feel free to help us jump start this process by signing this electronic petition to abolish the "no dancing after 2am or before 8am law": http://www.petitiononline.com/danceDMI/petition.html

Thankfully, Mindoutpsyde has a back up venue located in IOWA CITY, IA, which will allow this all-night Spring Equinox celebration to still occur. The event is now located at CLUB FARRAS, a spacious, colorful, intimate night club venue located in downtown Iowa City. The address of the venue is 320 Burlington St., Iowa City, IA 52240. The event is now AGES 19+ unfortunately, and alcohol will be served until 2am and will resume at 6am. The event will begin at 7pm and will end at 8am. Tea and Coffee will still be served, a full sound system will still be present. Both stages will still be packed with music, and the event will rock just as hard!

We greatly apologize for any inconvenience that any of you have experienced, and we hope you will still come celebrate this Spring Equinox with us as we dance the night away! I have a feeling that with much time and patience, that someday doing all-night music and art events in Iowa will be much easier.

Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for your support.

Infinite love and light to all of you.

So everything is exactly the same except these three things:

1- it is now going until 8am instead of 10am

2 - it is now 19+ instead of 18+

3 - it is located at 320 E Burlington St. Iowa City, IA

We really hope this wont mess with anyone's plans. thanks and see you all on the dancefloor!           --PSYOWA AND BEYOND--

"prohibits the act of dancing past 2am"

I'm speechless. Good luck with the petition. That's unbelievable.

Big ups to MindoutPsyde for having me come out all the way from Arizona for this incredible event! I had an amazingly great time in Psyowa.

The community, the music, the artwork, everything was superb. I enjoyed all the music that I heard. I especially enjoyed E11evens set as well as Helios. Really good stuff.

I hope people enjoyed the visuals, despite the second projector crapping out on me.

See you all again at Sacred Earth!!!

Here goes...

HOLY SHIT!

Never would I have thought that the venue change would have worked out so damn well! After speaking with the Iowa City police at two different points throughout the night, it was nothing short of amazing to hear that they have no special concern for our events, and even feel somewhat supportive of our events in comparison to the other events that often take place in downtown Iowa City. i love this town, and it feels so great to have the community behind what we are doing! Huge thanks to Jeff Z and Zach of the Des Moines Social Club in their incredible last minute 24-hours-a-day efforts to help us deal with the "no dancing past 2am ordinance". Despite the drama-filled situation in Des Moines, it felt great to have such a safe, friendly, intimate, and heavily decorated place in Iowa City to enjoy such a variety of awesome music and people, all night long.

as for the music, i was absolutely blown away! not only by the headlining performers, but by the awesome regional DJs as well! The flow of the tracks picked by each DJ was perfect, from the beginning of the event until the end, there was such a smooth progression of sound into darker, more intense styles around 12am-3am, and then it began to let up and return back to the melodic, more soothing sounds. I heard from countless people at the end of the event that they had NEVER danced that hard to dark Psytrance or dark techno, but the flow of the line ups had them feeling like they could not leave the dance floor. Mission accomplished DJs and musicians! great track selection, great flow, great beat-matching and transitions, WAY TO GO!!! every musician was awesome, especially considering how they handled the occasional sound-kill. thank you so much all you musicians!

as for the art, i was just as blown away! not just by the amount of deco there, but by the amount of NEW deco there! from new tapestries and paintings, to new lights and projections, to live painting, to the best UV performance i have ever witnessed at one of our events, to the touch-screen finger painting... ZOH MY LORD!!!! i was totally blown away by all of it, by the amount of help we had hanging stuff up and setting up deco, to the amount of people that were left at 8am to help us take it all down. absolutely amazing artists in the Midwest, many of which are involved in our community... and it felt great to have so many of them gracing us with their presence here in Iowa. thank you so much for those of u who helped with deco!

as for the experience, i had no idea that the dance floors would have stayed so thick with dancers the entire time! from 8 or 9pm, all the way until 8am, the dance floor was THICK! we still had at least 50-100 people left at 8am, and it was just so awesome to see people experiencing melodic, full on, dark, power, twilight, and other various genres of music on both stages throughout the night. I saw many Psytrancers spending a bit more time on the second stage, and many electronica fans checking out the Psy stage slightly more than normal. that is AWESOME, as this event had by far the most intermingling between stages that I have ever witnessed at one of our events. so many new faces, so many people experiencing the morning dancefloor experience for the VERY FIRST time... its just so awesome!

The headliners were awesome! Helios is extremely talented and laid down a flawless performance that will never be forgotten here in Iowa. The Cali spirit, embodied in high-energy, melodic, uplifting Psytrance, really helped to show people that melodic Psytrance doesn't have to be cheesy or boring in any way. This guy laid it down, from start to finish, and witnessing his set was truly a treat. VJ Endo was no exception, as this guy has some WICKED visuals! it sucks that our second projector crapped out on us, but it wasn't a big deal at all. Mind bending visuals delivered with a professional, friendly attitude made Endo a treat to have here in Iowa. It was awesome interacting with him throughout the event, in addition to outside of the event, as his humbleness, kindness, and awesome sense of humor was really enjoyable to have around the Mindoutpsyde house. Endo and Helios, you guys both rock! Thanks so much for coming and helping out in the ways you did.

alls I really can say is THANK YOU TO EVERYONE INVOLVED, for without you, Mindoutpsyde is absolutely nothing. honestly, after an event like this, I am more motivated than ever to keep these events going. I had such a blast meeting so many new people, hugging and stomping with so many friends and family, it just can't get any better than this! ( or can it? )

i am INCREDIBLY impressed with the Midwest electronic music scene thus far! I am so glad to live here, to be involved in this movement, and to help unify more and more diverse people with music, art, and good times! so thanks so much for your help, support, and love, and hopefully we will see you at the next one if you couldn't make it out to Spring Equinox!

thanks again guys, and until the next one... KEEP IT GOA'N!!!

With much love and light,

-Abe           Abrahm
