Gratitude was an amazing time, and I will definitely remember this one forever.

First, a HUGE thanks goes out to all individuals who attended Gratitude or helped in anyway. From those of you who contributed time, energy, or equipment to the event, to those of you who financially supported the event by buying a ticket, each and every one of you truly helped make Gratitude as special as it was. Once again, THANK YOU EVERYONE, it was great being a part of such a special event with all of you, and I will cherish these memories forever.

Second, the music. Almost every musician that I was able to hear was top notch. From high quality track selection to precise and accurate mixing, I was extremely satisfied with all of the musicians that I was able to hear at Gratitude. The intensity of the music flowed smoothly on both stages. Dragon absolutely killed it. Job well done musicians, and thank you for sharing your beats with us at Gratitude! Next time we will try to get a bigger sound system for the second stage, and we will also try to incorporate more downtempo and chill music in the late morning hours.

Third, the art. People from all over the Midwest USA brought artwork to share at Gratitude. I was thoroughly impressed with the total combined amount of art that was present from everyone who contributed. From the live painting to the UV performances, from the tapestries and spandex to the altars and cut-outs, the artistic efforts of everyone that contributed really helped make Gratitude a visually-inspiring event. Thank you artists and deco contributors, Gratitude looked beautiful thanks to all of your help! Next time we will make sure to bring clamps so that the black lights can be hung overhead.

Lastly, thanks so much to everyone that attended and also to those that did not come but still helped by spreading the word. One of the reasons these events are so special is because of all the unique people that come together to share ideas, conversations, and experiences during these events. So once again, thank you to each and every one of you that came to the event or contributed to the event in some way.

Cheers to the future, and we hope to see you at the next one!

Peace,

-Abe

First off, huge thanks to Abe for putting together this event. I still don't know how you did it with your busy school schedule, but massive props to you! Another huge thanks to JeffZ for being an enormous part of this party happening, from being an excellent contact to the venue, to putting us into contact with all the right people (and even recommending an awesome Vietnamese restaurant that night!). Another thanks to everyone else who helped out setting up, running the show and tearing down- Nick, Derek, Carli, Brian and Harlow were tons of help.

Really enjoyed the music all night. All the DJs on the main stage played great sets. I was impressed by Joe's set to start off the night, great tracks and great mixing. Abe played a bunch of really funky tracks, good stuff all around. Strooya's was probably my favorite dj set, great to hear you play some dark tracks Z! Psyentist threw down some hard darkness too that everyone got into. Dragon was a perfect headliner choice, it was pretty obvious from just the crowd that he played an amazing set. Some people who had never been to a psy party were really digging his music too. Good choice of a headliner for everyone to enjoy. Nick, of course with the craziness, sahweet. Toki - yes for playing that Eat Static dnb track to start out, I think it confused a lot of people, but man did it sound good . Adam and Phil layed down some phat twilight goodness that crept into more melodic sounds. Airyck - damn you, all I wanted to do was listen to you play and dance, but I had to save some energy for my set. No need to embellish on how much I love your sets, you know this . I had fun playing the teardown set, glad to give everyone some tunes to break stuff down to.

Although the sound on the second stage was blah I was able to enjoy some good sets there too. Darth Fungus's live swamp set was super tasty. Heard some bits of dubstep, glitch and techno throughout the night. For those who experienced Oblivions vs Gabber Jihad, yeah that was hilarious.

Deco looked awesome all around the place. Great job on covering the large space we had to work with, there are so many options on how to deco that place. I loved the UV airbrushing that was going on at the back of the room too. Hopefully we'll have him back for future events, everyone I talked to absolutely loved it. The community painting was another great creative outlet for people.

The drum circle/uv performance was awesome. I've come to really like these and I think it's a good idea to have them in the middle of the night when everyone is there to see it. It's cool to hand the spotlight over to performers who aren't playing music for a while and it's also a neat way to have a psy party with a different format, rather than just electronic music going the entire time.

To wrap it up, thank you, thank you, thank you everyone who made this event possible by helping out or just coming out. I was very happy to see a lot of new faces out too. A lot of locals really liked what they saw and agreed that we have a great opportunity to rebuild the des moines dance music scene. The word is already spreading fast about how much fun Gratitude was, so the next one should be even more epic! Thank you again everyone, it truly was an unforgettable night!!!           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Yeah, this party was a success not just for us, but for the city of des moines and the iowa dance scene in general. Des Moines hosts an annual demf-style (not as big) event called 515 Alive where they get around 10,000 people partying out on the streets. There's a ton of potential with this city so hopefully this is the first of many good steps forward!           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Lorda murcy. Appears from those jaypegs that Psyowans are splitting outta the woodwork! Lots of heads on the floor
Getting misty reminiscing.

Good call on having Dragon up! Sure it was slimy

I don't know if anyone got it, but someone should have gotten his intro. Eat Static - Tractor Beam is an awesome track to start a set with. Maybe Dragon can comment more, he asked me what Toki was gonna play and I said, it's Toki, we'll have to see .           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

came here to post my review and you guys made me *blush*..... I only can say exact same things in return and while it's always nice to hear stuff like that I have to add that each of you is the very reason and huge engine behind my djing evolution....

review:

I had the most wonderful time at this party and I was really grateful for being there and many other reasons, stomp and share artistic experience with all of you.

Thank you brother Abe for all your time, money, determination and efforts putting this together. Special thanks to Jeff Z for creating the awesome enviroment in Des Moines and supplying one of the best indoor venues I have seen. Lots fo credits go also to mr Kevin for supporting this and many other events in many ways, Carli and Derek for everything you do and just being there (always super glad to see you both), Mallory and Blake - for coming and rescuing me and my pregnant wife when we got stranded out in the cold on I-80 when going to the party, providing delicious dinner, warm and comfortable shelter and all the help in getting our car back on the road - huge THANK YOU! We also had plenty fun hanging out with Z, Alicia and David before and after the party - thank you for hospitality and awesome companionship.

Thank you for all the artists and performers, dancers, spinners, stompers and everybody I didn't mention - you's are the main reason why those parties are so special.
Music was great and enjoyable all night long. Joe showed off some mad skills opening the party and making everyone dance, Abe slamming night time proggy goodness, Strooya's excellent and very surprisingly groovy and energetic set. Psyentist came all the way from Missouri to treat us with excellent, crispy and psychedelic tunage.
Dragon - the quintessence of trance, progressive, groovy, crazy loopy and very psychedelic - thank you for the journey.
Lots of fun grooving to Aktif's mad tunage - finally perfect time slot to enjoy your outrages sounds; awesome set with incredible finish. Geal and Scatter played one of the best tag sets I have heard for a while but it was master Toki who got me really moving - beautifull blend of all different genres of psychedelic music....
Pumping and very solid (as always) set from Airyck brought some light to the floor. I only managed to catch a few mixes from Kevin's set but what I heard sounded really good.

I don't know yet how to be at two places at once so didn't really have opportunity to check what was going on in the second room but aside from the sound (too loud first of all for a little space like that) I heard the performences were top notch with the only problem...lack of real chill out music for those who wanted take a little break from main floor madness.

Once more: I AM EXTREMELY GRATEFUL TO BE PART OF THIS PSYCHEDELIC JOURNEY!
