I'm stoked to finally make my return to psyowa. I'm working on some treats both visually and aurally for you guys.

its going to be one HELL of a fourth of july!

so I'm guessing with all the flooding that fireworks wont be a problem, since there's no chance of starting a fire?

are they legal up there? lets get some mortars going off or will that attract the wrong kind of attention?

Yes, that will attract the wrong kind of attention. The only fireworks that are legal in Iowa are snakes and sparklers..lame. So just to let you all know

Looking forward to the weekend! Hope you all save some dancing energy for Sunday morning!           ~Airyck~

I am posting live from Expedition. Vampyromorpha just played a killah set and Karmakanik is laying down some South African grooves.

Last night, Primordial Ooze played a very crazy set. Lots of faster tracks than I've heard before.

Very nice party. Boom to the organizers.

Croquet

Karmakanik and I narrowly defeated Keyzer Soze and Vampyromorpha in an afternoon game of croquet.

Keyser Soze has really stepped up his game since our last bout. With practice he may soon come to dominate the Midwest psycroquet scene.           Kent

I missed the croquet again (two parties in two weekends with psycroquet and I never saw it... where are you hiding the wickets mang?)

what can I say besides wow what a morning..

Karmakanik taking over after vampyromorpha was perfect transitioning into nice deep south african tunes, then collision followed with what I can only describe as the best set I've ever heard him play. He rocked the south african morning properly and left my feet aching and my body tired as all hell but there was more in store before I could collapse into the chair. Airyck followed collision with an amazing morning set that are becoming his signature mark on the midwest psy scene, if you havent heard this man play sunrise then you are really missing out!

the whole saturday lineup was really well put together in my opinion, with Alien audience and Abraham throwing down a full power three hour tag set that was well put together and got the floor riled up into a frenzy for vampyromorpha who slayed the kids with an obscure blend of quality night tunes that all went really well into his theme but kept it changing up to the point where I found myself constantly itching to dance my ass off (I had a hard time conserving energy for the morning this time, but I managed to save enough to ROCK the fuck out anyway)

I just have to say the people at this one were top notch, I met quite a few folks who I now consider assimilated into my national psy family, I love you guys, I had a blast rocking out, I'm off to explore the west coast but I'll be back in august to hold it down at our esoteric gen event and then off to keep it goan around the country.

keep the torch burning while I'm away you nutters!

big props to the organizers, and all the crews who came together to get the deco up and looking beautiful. that barn never knew it was so psychedelic. the artists were top notch at this one, both chill and psy, I'll be posting a full review sometime soon after I get some real sleep.

I had an awesome time! First off I want to thank the venue owners for allowing us to have this party, both very friendly and awesome people! That's pure dedication to the scene to move into a new house on Tuesday and have a 3 day that starts 3 days later! Thank you to MOP for setting everything up and having me out to play. You guys surely had stuff locked down for your first official 3 day. Props to Justin for setting up a killer sound system.

Everyone played really great sets on both stages the entire time. I was really impressed with both of Medisin's sets (seriously more people should have caught his set on the second stage it was freakishly good and psychedelic as hell). It seemed like his music and Cliff's paintings were meant to go together as each complemented the other perfectly . El Chill also played a set that I couldn't get away from (I never thought I'd have a hard time leaving the chill stage, but damn!). Blake played a great set for his first time out, very well put together and great mixing. Vampry (still can't spell or pronounce his full name) threw down a freaky dark set. It was creepy seeing this man behind the decks stand there very zen like while blasting out that kind of music, excellent . Karmakanik played a set that was perfectly placed behind vamp's that I felt like it saved everyone from the evilness haha. My favorite set of the event was Derek's morning set. The combination of really wanting to hear some uplifting morning music and derek playing exactly what I wanted to hear (space buddha ftw) made it perfect. Also wanted to give props to Agent Hurt for dropping a bomb on the second stage for a short period of time saturday night (ultra most drunken prog set!!). It was nice to see Tyler finally get to play for the first time this year (3rd time's a charm I guess). The fire spinning/throwing going on saturday night was really awesome to watch too. Can't wait to go back in September.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Where to start...
THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Thank you EVERYONE for helping so much with this event. Some people brought equipment, some people brought decorations, some people brought musical talent, some people brought things to vend, some people provided the land, and others brought their own unique, and event-enhancing energies and personalities which made this event such a landmark in the history of Psyowa. Mindoutpsyde and Psyowa are made up of each and everyone of you that continues to support, enrich, and enjoy our events. It is not just Iowa, it is a Midwest-wide organization that is only as good as it is because all of us come together to collaborate in the creation of such unique and amazing events! THANK YOU MIDWEST!
We finally embraced the outdoors (thanks to a secure land location), and were able to stomp ALL weekend (and even blow off a ton of fireworks ;D), without any major noise complaints or attention from the authorities. The police stopped by only ONCE to check on us, to make sure that cars were all parked on the same side of the road, and to explain why that was an important request. As it turned out, tractors and trucks commonly use the road, and they need as much space as they can get to drive by, so all visitors’ cars must be parked on one side of the road. That was all they cared about! After that, they wished us the best of luck with the rest of the evening, and they never came back! What an amazing time, supported by the amazing community of Fairfield!
Decorations: Wow what an amazing display of artistic collaboration from so many different crews from around the Midwest! Derrick and Carli, Cliff and his friends, Sacred Sounds from Missouri, and tons of help from numerous other Psyowans and Midwesterners, this event was PACKED with beautiful eye candy! The use of the orange triangles on the chill stage was totally unique, as it was almost like a fiery halo which floated above the dance floor of the chill stage. Very awesome how you guys found a clever and powerful way to reuse those amazing pieces of spandex / cloth Derrick and Carli! Cliff jam packed the chill stage with even more deco after arriving, bringing a few pieces I had not seen before, and even doing some live work on a white canvas! Didn’t think the art on the chill stage was going to get much better after Derrick and Carli contributed, but Cliff took it above and beyond! Thanks for all the help!
On the main stage, Sacred Sounds came through HUGE with the Spandex and paint-splattered tapestries! The tiger-striped and white spandex which was symmetrically stretched behind the DJ stand on the Main stage was incredible. It really helped create an out-of-this-world atmosphere in comparison to how the barn felt before being decorated. They also brought UV painted plastic flowers and plants which once stuck in the ground, really gave the feeling that we were outdoors while indoors. Great work from them, they really helped enrich the main stage more than our usual tapestries are capable of doing. Kati and Jessica's crazy circular string art deco piece fit in nicely into the center gap of the spandex, floating just above the head of the DJs. Very stimulating piece of art from these girls, and I hope we see more! Altars were made for both stages, which was awesome! Derrick and Carli's altar on the chill stage was beautiful as usual, as these 2 are obviously pro when it comes to creating a sacred, beautiful environment to dance in. The altar on the main stage was also stunning, as it was a collaboration of Sacred Sounds, Mindoutpsyde, and tons of other Iowans who wanted to contribute their items! From Kati's amazing Red Buddha, to Jessica's buddha which held the glowing orb of energy, to the energy crystals and stones which were provided by an unknown source, the altars on both stages did a great job of making this a deeper event than simply a "party". Great job everyone, Thanks again for your help with deco!
Music: AMAZING! First, performances i caught on the chill stage were outstanding. It’s hard to catch everyone’s set over the course of the weekend, so apologies to anyone's set i missed, but I did the best i could and i the following reviews are based on what i experienced first hand, or heard from a friend that was able to catch the DJ's set. The first set i was able to catch was bTsunami (Ben), from Iowa. He really got the dance floor going on the second stage with groovy, electro beats, and steady, deep bass lines. Early in the night, before people get too worn down by the psy stage, his progressive / electro style of downtempo really fit in perfectly, as people were ready to dance on both stages. It was awesome to look down from the crow's nest of the house (i was there with the venue owner) and see a pumpin' dance floor below with bTsunami behind the decks. Everyone was loving it! StevO, who was making his musical debut at a Mindoutpsyde event, kept the beats flowing with some wild electro-tech-trance style beats. Although i wasn’t able to stick around for the entirety of his set, for the amount of time i spent there, it was great to see people bobbin their heads, tapping their feet, and getting down to some quality, slower dance beats. Again, these electro / progressive beats really were done at the perfect time, as people were not in need of "chill music" yet, as dancing was happening on both stages. Scatter and Amritaji got on next and laid it down as well! This was our first true downtempo act, and the timing was perfect for these two beautiful people to take the stage. The first couple that truly has devoted themselves to spinning chill music together, their stage presence goes beyond simply playing good music. Seeing them interact, and enhance each others time, smiling, laughing, and sending out the good vibes, truly pulls anyone and everyone into their relaxing, spiritual style of chill music. Any girls that may be hesitant see Anita, and start getting down, and any guys that feel hesitant notice Scatter, and feel comfortable with enjoying the music. Their balance and choice of quality tracks, really makes them one of the most unique, emerging chill DJ acts in the entire USA, as few people fit together for their tag team sets as well as they do! Unrelated to their music, but PROPS to you 2 on quitting smoking successfully for so long! Inspiration to us all, BOOM! Great set guys, i was working the door at this point, through much of Vax's set, but i knew when you were on and the music was beautiful! Next was Vaxination, here all the way from Arkansas, and boy did he surprise me. Again, i was working the door through all but the last half hour of his set, but I got up to see who was getting on next after the break in music between Phil & Anita’s set and Vax's set, so I knew who was getting on next.

I must have picked the perfect time to pick up door shifts because Vaxination continued the amazing flow of chill music. I heard amazing piano notes, combined with soothing, celestial sounds in one track! When I got a chance to peek at Vax while he was playing, it put a great smile on my face to see him bobbing his head and smiling also, truly enjoying the music he was playing, and what he was doing for those that were listening. Great set from a great guy! Energon laid it down as usual, although i only was able to catch the tail end of his set. Thankfully we never found someone to replace Anand's time slot, so it was very fortunate that Energon had continued to spin into that open time slot, which allowed me to catch the last half hour of the set. Great chill tracks man, and great mixing. He has a downtempo mix posted in our music section for anyone that wants it, it’s an amazing mix which is very similar in style to the stuff he played at the chill stage this weekend! Ascension brought things back up a notch, rocking a progressive psy set that was fuckin' GROOVY! The first 3 tracks were absolutely flawlessly beat matched and mix, showing how greatly this young DJ has improved over a short amount of time. Few people that spin psy also spin chill, and even fewer of those people go on to find progressive beats and mix them. So props to you for being so diverse, and GOOD at it! Truly one of the gems of the Midwest, Ascension will be around for a looooong time! After I played, Kaiser Soze played, bringing Primordial Ooze downtempo tracks, which had NEVER been played in the land of Psyowa, or at any other event in the Midwest! First unleashing these tracks at Gaian Mind, and then at Expedition, i had my mind BLOWN by this set. Think of the Ooze, the thick, swamp-like bubbly bass lines, combined with the three dimensional layers of twings, pangs, springs, pops, fizzles, and skizzle bops, all pitched down to something below 130bpm. it was Sludgy, it was Mucky, it was Fat, Thick, Juicy, and AMAZING! I even brought my air mattress out to the chill stage to make sure i got to hear the whole thing. Unfortunately Scott did not burn me a CD , so i will be craving more Ooze downtempo until i get my fill at the next event. I know a lot of people missed this unknowingly, but i urge you to make sure you catch it next time!Toki played next, and it was great to catch the beginning of this guys set. Great guy, great track selection, with a very minimal, qwerky, and groovy feel to his music. Always fun to listen to Toki, as this DJ shows just how diverse he can be, every time he plays. I never have heard you play the same type of set twice Toki, which is more than I can say for many DJs, including myself! I went to sleep approximately 30 minutes into Toki's set, and slept until 7pm or so, just in time to catch Pandemics set. Apologies go out to ZeroSix and Saeros for not catching their chill / progressive sets. You know I love ya, and will try my best again in the future! I spoke with Jessica who was able to catch some of Saeros's set, which she had said she liked because it was progressive, which reminded her of one of her other favorite genres which is house music and progressive trance. I caught the last half of Pandemic's set, which was very different from other sets i had heard that weekend. It was a bit darker, techy almost, and had a very groovy, downtempo beat behind it. It was a pleasure to listen to, and fun to watch him spin. It was also great to hear Tim spreading music at a stage, rather than saying whatever came to mind over the bull horn The music was much more pleasing to listen to! Also, big thanks to Tim for his generous serving of eggs and bacon which he gave to party goers that were still surviving Sunday morning. Very generous bro! Next up was PSI FU, and i was only able to catch 2 tracks from him. Great stage presence, good to see him having fun while he plays, and the mixing was very solid as well! Again, i only heard tracks mixed, but both mixes were on point and solid, so way to go! I missed Dr.Z, who i heard was amazing! This man is a PhD professor at Iowa State University, who not only mixes trance and progressive beats, but also makes them! His set was live for one half and DJ for the second, and from what i heard, this guy really got things fired up at the chill stage as the sun was going down. Great to have this guys support and credibility at our events, so expect to see MUCH more of him! I also missed Mr.Re, who is a huge part of UncensoredUS productions. Heard he had a great set from Nate though, so it was great to hear that he was properly representing the org and Minnesota with his beats. Good stuff! El Chill is the MAN! One of the coolest African Americans i know, this man loves to joke, laugh, play, even during his set. I was only able to catch a small portion of his set, while i dealt with an issue, but it was great to hear some diverse and very stimulating sounds coming from the speakers during his set. This man uses everything from Jazz samples to nature sounds, and he is another downtempo producer that will surely be coming to play at future events. Thanks for the support Lew! Medisin throw down some graceful chill as well! Didn’t think a man who throws down such hardness on the main stage could be so gentle on the chill stage... but he was, and it was very satisfying! Great music coming from this guy, some of which is Live, so it will be great to hear more from him in the future. Yidam & Damon - AMAZING. Haven’t heard these guys play back to back in so long, they truly have one of the most spiritual, rejuvenating sounds of the entire Midwest. Since Yidam left for India, we never thought wed have him back, so to have him back and playing just before Damon was amazing. that was 4 hours of simply rejuvenating sounds... anyone who wandered to the chill stage between the hours of 3 and 7 were most definitely touched by their sound, whether they were conscious of it or not Unfortunately due to tear down / garbage issues, i missed St.Dizco and SOTs sets. Much love to you both, and something tells me I will have another chance to hear you in the future!
