Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a midi triggerable compressor to use as a sidechain instead of triggering via audio?

fitzoyo, you can solve this with a workaround if you already have your favourite compressor (with audio triggered side chain) and don't want to change it:

1) use a sampler or something the like and set an appropriate sound

2) use the sampler's output as the audio feeding the side chain

3) trigger the sampler via midi (this is now your midi control of the compressor side chain)

hope it helped, cheers

Addition to dtd,
You might want to use a loud looped sinewave sample to use it as the audio trigger.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I was more interested in a midi triggerable compressor for ease of use rather than having to do any workarounds. As there is no sidechain in cubase i use tc native bundle sidechain and waves sidechain but it gets a bit messy if you have several things sidechaining. TC sidechain only lets you have two sidechain sources while for waves i end up with loads of group channels. Was just looking for something a bit more straightforward like the way you can use the cubase midi gate.

Yeah ive had a look at the bluecat stuff. It looks like it might be a bit of hassle setting up still, was after something a bit more instant but im gonna download the demo and give it a whirl. Do you use it?

I want to, but it seems to be buggy in Cubase 4... :-(

Actually it's brilliant, if you have the compressor and the eq, you can do pretty usefull things.

For example you put the compressor on the kick, but do not let it do anything (dry) then you route the "gainreduction" to a midi cc out. the eq you put on the bass and the gain of a band you let control from the midicontroler generated by the kick.

See the point?

There is a tutorial..

It looks to have some quite interesting possibilites, not sure if it will solve my initial problem for just regualr sidechaining but i think i could definitly find some creative use for it.
