Well I got Cubase Studio 4, I plugged in Fabfliter Volcano to an insert on a VSTi track but it doesn't seem to be receiving midi input from the track.
I can make a new midi track and select it from the output there and it works, but not from the midi playing the instrument.
Is there something I'm missing here? Does Cubase Studio 4 not send midi to the insert fx?
I registered at Cubase.net but they are taking a million years to activate my account, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx

i don't think cubase sends midi data to inserts (beside automation). try making a new track, adding a midi send from the instrument track to the new track (so they play exactly the same) and set the output of the new to the plugin.

Thank you, I didn't know if it did or not, I came up with a way to work around it by adding a midi track with the same data and choosing the insert as the output.
If anybody knows a different way, let me know...
This has been frustrating the hell out of me...I've been digging through the manual trying to find out if it sends midi data to the insert FX
Can anybody else confirm that Cubase "does not" send midi to audio inserts from the track?

the one i told you. add a send to the midi playing the instrument. send it to the new track (the one that outputs in the insert).

Nope, that didn't work, it's still not receiving midi from the source instrument track...
In other words I have to have a completely seperate midi track, and choose the insert as an the 1 and only choice for the output.
I cannot choose it as a send.
When I load it in a vst fx track, and choose it as an audio send I still don't get midi input from it.
So the only way I've figured out is to have 2 seperate tracks with the same midi notes. One playing the instrument, and one playing the insert....

If you are talking about a "midi send" and not an "audio send" I do not have an option for MIDI sends on an instrument track...

I see, it looks like it's a limitation of the new "Instrument Tracks" I have midi sends on Midi Tracks but not on "Instrument Tracks". Or maybe this is a limitation of Cubase "Studio" 4.
Crap...Sorry to be so frustrating e-motion, I really appreciate your help, you've helped me to figure out this much....

I don't have 4, but the way I would go about logically trying to solve it would be to see if the plugin has it's own set of midi tracks (like how instruments appear in a folder called (VST instruments)
Try recording some automation manually on the plugin, then use 'show used automation' and see if anything shows where the plugin is getting its midi data from. |
