Damn this broken search function! Sorry if this has been covered.
We were talking about the new Vanguard stereo-gate in another topic, i.e. the built in gate that does gating in stereo.
Can anyone recommend a stand alone MIDI gate that does something like this? I use Cubase SX, I haven't been using gating like I used to in Logic and definitely need to get back into the good ol' stuttering sounds like I used to.
The stereo gate on the new Vanguard makes a nice subtle difference so yeah... if you know about a stand alone, throw down....

Do you mean the direct-X Skidder? It doesn't look like it side-chains to a midi channel... that one looks pretty much the same as the Chopper that comes built into Cubase.
There's also a VST page on that DFX page that seems to link to steinberg but the link is broken. Were you referring to something in there?
While that DFX one has a 'stereo spread' function, that's not what I was wondering about, I'm wondering if there's a sidechainable MIDI gate that has the same stereo-gating capacity as the newest release of the Vanguard (1.1 I think)... as in you can assign left/right specific gate values instead of just mono open/shut.
Instead of a single gate pattern acting on both channels like
--x--xx-x---x--x
it's sending specific gate open/shut messages to invidual left/right channels like
Left --x--xxx--x--x-x-x
Right x--x--x--x--x--x--x
It's opened up a whole cool new level of subtlety on some of the newest Vanguard presets, more stereo atmosphere is always a good thing.
Maybe a standalone MIDI stereogate hasn't been written yet, I can't think of how they'd implement the stereo aspect into a standard issue sidechain.
I guess you could do this on your own by running individual sidechains on each channel if you split a stereo VST signal into separate left/right channels, but I'm really really lazy. Hmm.

MgTriggerGate:
http://www.mgaudio.de/modules/main.php
"It is a sequenced gate, similar to the trancegate effect found in reFX' Vanguard. It has a little 16-step-sequencer for trigger impulses, is syncable to host tempo and all important parameters are automatable."
I think it's an excellent plug-in, and FREE!

Aeon,
the skidder accepts MIDI in commands. (in logic also btw).
and it's a VST plugin.
I think you can work it out - but don't ask me how
