Hi all,
I'm in the process of setting up a home studio, and the last 2 things I really need to get it all working is a soundcard and a midi patchbay so my PC can communicate with all my gear.
I'm gonna get an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 soundcard, but can somone reccomend me a midi bay that will let me communicate with my synths? (I've got 5 synths, and i'm getting a 6th soon, so i'd probably need an 8-out bay.)
Or am I just completely confused? I can command all my synths from my pc using just 1 midi cable to a bay and the cables from the bay to my synths, right? *is confused* |

hummm...if you got four sinths you should think better about the soundcard, with audiophile you will only be able to have 1 synth connected at a time (only 1 stereo input)
about midi, i don't know what is that bay thing, but you might need a midi interface... |

I'm a bit confused here...I asume you are new to midi, and you want to control all your synths with a midi-patchbay(midi-interface)...so you have a mixer with all your synths connected to different channels .
U don't need an 8 out bay if some of your synths got "midi-thru"...you can link some synths together...
Depending on how much sounds(channels) u want 2 play from your synths..without a midi-"interface" (i think that's what u mean with "patchbay") is 16 (channels)...
If u have a USB midi-interface like the EDIROL UM 550...u have 5 times 16 channels is 80 channels...
The more channels u use...the more in/outs u need...since there is some latency, if u use all 16 channels of 1 port...
Let's asume u use 4 sounds from every synth....and you want to have better midi-timing...you could do with a 4in/4out (if some synths have midi-through)...but more is allways better if it comes to timing...
If u use cubase..i'd go for the Midex...
If u use logic ...i'd go for the AMT-8...
Hope this has made u less confused...
