Let's say i have a piano song i like and i would like to have this song as a midi file with all the notes that i can change in tone , tweak , etc, on my favourite soft synth.
is there any software that can convert the audio file into a midi partiture??
so that i can copy astrix leads without any effort?

Cubasing is like Freebasing, just with audio.
Both cost more than you can afford, and leaves you sitting in a dark room with no life, craving for more. |

Widi does that but only for simple audio files i think. It doesn't always produce good results though.

general [1] audio to musical note information conversion is currently considered an open problem in research. it can be done for simple melody lines though (monophonic, or simple polyphonic). if you're interested, here's some literature on it [2, 3].
transcribing a bassline would be possible in principle, but it depends on the amount of distracting sonic elements which occur in the neighborhood of bassline notes. you should be able to transcribe the bassline by ear, i think.
best wishes,

[1] general: e.g. arbitrary number of notes simultaneously, i.e. arbitrary chord complexity etc.

Knzaudio Midifier
(any Q like this obviously google will find in 1 second)
it does it , not perfect , but will not miss more then couple of notes that u can easily complete.
you will need astrix lead in solo tho to get good result
and probably the sound design is more important then same melody repeat itself few years now. specialy in prog , 700 basslines and soft chords with same midi line , but diffrent sound design , makes it actualy diffrent feel..
