Simple, MIDI Sync through Ethernet LAN
Quite impressive!

http://www.musiclab.com/products/rpl_info.htm

Using computers in musical studio has become very common. Now computers not only work as sequencing equipment, but also as multi-track digital audio workstations. In modern studio environment a whole lot of computers may be networked locally so that among the other things they can share MIDI data, which makes use of MIDI cables and hardware MIDI interfaces unnecessary. Not only does such a local network (LAN) reduce the necesity of using external MIDI hardware, but it may also drastically increase the effeciency and flexibility of such a multi-computer studio.

yeah, I've tried it using my mac and pc and it works beautiful. very easy to setup and run.
if you have mac running tiger, you get the same thing for free with their midi network driver.           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." Russolo, 1913

There is also "FX Teleport" wich makes vst connections thru lan. It does not support rewire but the creators are saying that they are planning to implement it.

I ve tried that,it works almost great,
but I am sic of the latency...
Its almost half a sec with 100mbps LanCard...
so if u upgrait to 1000 cards will the latency dissapear?

yeah, i think its meant to be used with GigaLan cards
and avoid using hubs or repeaters, just direct connect or a good switching device.

good luck!           (www) DarkPrisma.com.ar/ ~ FranticNoise.com.ar/ ~ Megalopsy.com.ar/ ~

From a quick view at the forums of FX teleport, the manufacturer said in one post do not use a broadband connection at the same time when you use the lan for the VST transfer, if everything is connected to the same router/switch. In general is better to have a dedicated switch and not a HUB which causes problems. If it is not that your problem, it is somehow strange because at the site they claim latency of 6-9 ms!

So actually ur making a kluster... That already exists a long time guys (since before the first IBM pc)... But programmes like that make it a lot easier to set up a kluster, so i can only applaud it...

I am using a direct connection with a cross cable,no hub etc.
I didnt count the latency's amount or my networks bitrate but i can say that the result its quite audiable,
especially on fx assigned through the net.
If using a vst synth, latency its not a big prob since it will be bounced/mixedown
but for master fx sure is a prob..
Ill check the forum,thx

I'm upping this old topic !

Is there a good freeware around here for MIDI Over Lan ?

I'd like to be able to synchronize two Live! instance on a pair of computers, in order to do some sweet jamming sections !
