horay!

finally its out the second album from the Midi Milizia , released on Boshke Beats Records Spain after the succesfull release of their Antistat Album on Novatekk some years ago the Elmshorn Connection presents new food for the techjunks and above

release date :

December 2002

Tracklist :

1. Interleaved
2. Phenomena
3. Missing Guest
4. No Exit
5. Phormat Phono
6. Aeromode
7. Stalker
8. Baxandall
9. Mrs. Vargas
10. Starz

its very hard for me to describe all traxx separetly but i just wanna say that every track has his own style and is different to the other , No Exit and Aeromode had been released on 12 inch by Boshke Beats some months ago , also Baxandall and The Missing Guest is out on 12 inch by Boshke , like i said the music is hard to describe for me, IMO its very modern electronic music wich reaches from pushing techno stuff to well known Techtrance and some smoother more hypnotizing tunes ...

very good entertainment at all , fat production on the soundwork

my favs:) 3,7,5

Dan

While I need a little more time with this album before I can write about it, I think it has the most original cover that I have ever seen. The inside of the cover opens to reveal a copy of an "airplane" ticket issued by Midimiliz/Passages to Arne and Wayan. The itenerary starts from Hamburg on July 4 and goes to the Moon. The carrier code is THC . The second leg of the trip is from the Moon to Saturn and the carrier is CBD. Then they return to the Moon with carrier CBN on July 8, and finally they get back to Hamburg. Again with THC. I'm sure there are more details that I have missed.

So this explains what Passages Arne and Wayan had in mind when they created this album and picked this name for it. Not many covers are this original, that's for sure.

The album itself is one heck of a cosmic trip into the future. I will argue until the end of the world and back that it's difficult to find music with such intense psychoactive elements. Take for example that freaky vocal sample "Starz shining bright" on the last track "Starz". As I said in the beginning, I feel I need to hear this album a few more times before I can write a full review.

Many, many thanks to Boshke Beats for this amazing Christmas gift!

Happy holidays to everybody!

I've been a huge Midimiliz fan ever since a friend of mine played "Solid Horse" while we were travelling on a carrier with a code "THC". All she said was "This new music is really wicked." That caught me totally unprepared.

I haven't been able to provide myself with a rational explanation as to why I expect my favorite artists to constantly evolve their music,
break new boundaries, take me places I haven't been. Yet I do. And it is along this line of thoughts that I'm saying that I was about as unprepared for this album as I was when I heard "Solid Horse" for the first time. Even after having heard "No Exit" on the Chronika compilation, this album caught me by surprise. It is completely new and different in the way it sounds and the types of emotions it generates. Midimiliz have never been after cheap emotions. And "Passages" proves this point:

1. Interleaved - This track provides a great introduction to this album. It never gets too far and in that respect, it reminds me of "XV", the intro track that Midimiliz cooked for the first Boshke Beats compilation "Chronika Chapter 1". It's the right track for the right spot in the album.

2. Phenomena - it's time to get serious for this trip. This track does a pretty good job to prepare you for what this album is about: the synths create an ethereal background effect from the depth of space, dark powerful sounds and sophisticated arrangements. This is a collaboration with the evil genius. I'm afraid to say his name.

3. The Missing Guest - No, the CD isn't skipping. Within the Passages metaphor, this track probably represents a mechanical failure that requires a space walk to fix. Scary!!!

4. No Exit - I would call it the "Restore My Soul" of Passages. This track was released on
"Chronika Chapter One" which was probably not a great idea. Its rightful place is here, on this album.

5. Format: Phono - All hell breaks loose, fasten your seatbelts because Midimiliz will show you what happens when you apply the chaos theory to electronic music.

6. Aeromode - Add one part trance and one part techno in a bottle. Shake vigorously! OK, OK, maybe two parts techno.

7. Stalker - Another powerful track that explores the concept of travelling without moving. There's a interesting vocal sample. Not as interesting as what's to come but far more mysterious.

8. Baxandall - this is not fair, I cannot pick a favorite track from this album. They are all so good. Every time I try, it's always the one
I'm listening to at that moment. Right now, it's Baxandall.

9. Mrs. Vargas - Strange name. I assume Mrs. Vargas is from Greece, but why she was honored in this track is beyond my knowledge. The track itself is very light and ethereal when compared with the rest of the album. Something to think about. Probably someone closer to Midimiliz can shed some light on this one. Marcus helped out on this track.

10. Starz - Another collaboration with Marcus. I have always been skeptical about the use of vocal samples, but this track changed my mind. It's all a matter of using it wisely. "Starz, Starz, Starz Shining Bright" is interwoven into the entire track. It's very muted and unintelligible at first and then it slowly crystalizes. What's different is how the vocal sample is actually the central piece in the track, not just one of its elements.

Many, many thanks to Boshke Beats for having the vision and perseverance to release boldly innovative music.

Happy New Year to everybody!

I already wrote a review for album on psynews.org, so I'll just paste it here:

"This album is a masterwork. Not nearly as "itchy and scratchy" as their earlier midimiliz stuff, and not nearly as "gloom and doom" as their delta work. This is the most mature work to come out of the elmshorn masters to date. I don't want to describe each track, because they all work to build an overall feeling, a feeling of being lost in hash and lost in space. The soundscapes are very subtle and morph gently, unlike the more noise-tech work of before. I am truly amazed away by this one. Less high-octane cola and more high-quality smoke, which suits me just fine. Also Boshke Beats fueled by the genius of Inga does a fine job in packaging this one. The most original album of the year along with Yumade's. 10/10!"

After listening a few more times, I can only say it gets better. If you don't have serious speakers that you can play at loud volumes, I suggest you invest in a pair of serious headphones. There is much atmospheric work going in the back. Although I can see why some people would see this as less powerful, to me it is FAR more powerful than what they have done before, because it is deeper and more psychedelic. Moreover, its "darkness" is not over the top like on some of the delta releases, where it can get a little cheesy (orchestras, children's voices, etc). It is far more restrained and eerie and mature, which gives it more power on deeper psychological levels. Also, the album functions as a single artistic work, which is incredibly rare for a psytrance album. Every track fits into a certain passage of the overall journey.

To me this is not indoor club music. This is massive sound to be played out on a massive system outdoors. Convince the promoters to turn off the fucking lasers and spotlights and video screens, and gaze up at the stars. You don't even need to dance. You just need to smoke...then sink...then space out.
