i want to get a soundcard...
and i think i'll choose Audiophile 2496 or Delta 44...

so i searched on the web to compare them...
and i read that the unlike the audiophile, the delta doesn't have midi interface...

now, don't think i'm stupid or something... but what does midi interface means??
and what does it gives you?

i know what is midi in general...

thanks

Midi i/o interface lets you connect MIDI devices aka synths and controllers with MIDI cables.

You can control VSTi and other Midi interfaces on your computer with your Midi controler and the computer can send Midi to your synth that can control it within the computer.

so i guess it's not the right soundcard if want to use VSTi and such... right?

in that case, i think i'll go for the audiophile

If you have a MIDI controller of any kind to control the VSTi, then you want a MIDI i/i on your computer. if not then u don't.

but even computer today have onboard midi i think. all u need is some cable converter...           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

No problems mate, if you have simplest Audio Card like Live, Sound Blaster and compatibles you'll have the MIDI/Joystick port that you need.
No converter needed with those ones.
As for the onboard sound chips. Well from what i've seen they do have Joystick Port but you can't use it as MIDI port.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

You need a midi interface if you want to send or receive any information from external stuff to the computer (e.g.send notes from keyboard to computer, send notes from computer to sinth, send automatation data from a midi controller to the computer, etc, etc)

I think the audiophile sound card has 1 midi in 1 midi out, and 1 stereo audio ins and outs.(2 mono)

The delta 44 has no midi interface but has 2 stereo audio ins and outs. (4 mono)

Well, if you want to get more audio ins/outs in the audiophile...you can´t.
But if you want to get midi with the delta 44 its quite cheap to buy a midi interface, so i think the delta 44 would be a better option...

hmm...

ok so the audiophile is 1300 shekels...

and the delta 44 is 1700 shekel + midi interface which is at least 300 shekels = 2000 shekels

now I see that the delta doesn't have digital input... how nessecary is that input??

you should go to the store ... physically.
i think they put the prices for credit card - they pay more interests if they sell via the internet.
or better call and argue a little.
if u buy by cash they will drop the price afaik.
if u feel shy to argue for the price, take a friend who doesn't. besides, see what software comes with it - sometimes the bundles cost more money than the card. all this is better to check out by phone or by a visit.

boomski!

The guys there like to bargain, don't be afraid.
They put on the net prices li'l bit higher than the actual prices so when you'll come there they will propose smaller price and tell you that there's a special discount (Mivtza) Especially for you.
BTW if you already there, check out if M-Audio Revolution card can suit your purposes. It's cheaper and you'll have the same low latency.
