Hello mates,
i've been thinking about getting a midi guitar, since i've been playing guitar forever and don't really understand my midi keyboard (yet) =D
does anyone have experience with any kind of midi guitar?
i've seen on the net that there are mainly 2 ways 2 go:
- roland hex pickup and roland midi converter (i could install it on my current guitar)
- casio guitars made back in the 80's that already have a midi out on them.
does anyone knows which way to go? Are they really good for controlling a virus for eg.?
Thanx!! |

one of my music partners uses a roland midi pickup on his jazz guitar to great effect on our dance project. It's kind of amazing for coming up with cool chord progressions and stuff like that. And the live show should be downright nasty once we get it together |

i have the roland gr30
nice one to have in studio yeah
but not realy perfect as u wish .. not at all
actualy there is super cheap usb guitars today by beghringer i think u might wanna check that *i havent so let us know..
anywayz i dont trust the roland too much it miss semi tone changes and such.. sure i use it much as its easy to fix midi and much easier to me find scales fast on the guitar.. but for live i skip it for now

I kinda want a gr30 just cause it's easier for me to play guitar than keyboard, then I could edit the midi...
Also I think I could time my notes better. |

yeah, somebody told me that they're not accurate at all...
what abt the casio ones, have anyone tried?
@tsabeat: is it really worth it? i've also heard of some wav to midi converter.. have u tried that? how is it when compared to the roland pickup?
i don't think the behringer usb guitar sends midi, i looked on their website and it only sends audio data through usb (though it could be used with the wav->midi converter) |

I use a GR-30 as well, but i find it pretty hard to play it right. It feels like i have to adjust my playing style to the GR-30 instead of the GR-30 adjusting itself to my playing style. I'm considering learning to play my keyboard better.
