Hi folks. I'm looking to get back into making tunes again after several years hiatus and I need a new MIDI controller as I sold all of my gear a while back.

I don't want to spend a fortune, and the Novation LE controllers really look like the business considering how cheap they are, but I haven't been able to find any 'real world' reports on what they're like, so if anyone has some experience or opinions on them -- or any other MIDI controllers that might be be better in this price range -- that'd be great.

And on a sidenote, I never did know exactly what 'aftertouch' was, so if someone could explain that it'd be cool aswell ;)

Wow, just read about the new Novation controller. Seems like good stuff to me I don`t think it`s released yet, so that`s probably why you couldn`t find any objective reviews on it.

Aftertouch means that when you press down a key and then press it once more a little harder, a user definable parameter will change. Understand? Like if you push harder a tiny vibrato or morph function will be initiated. Practical if you want leads to sound more alive. If you don`t want aftertouch youl can just turn the function off.

Cheers

Thanks for that, Barius. I have read on a couple of sites that the remote LE's are just out (retail $300 Australian for the 49 key one I think, which seems like a bargain if the quality is as good as it looks on the web). I'll be checking out what I can in stores this week, so hopefully someone nearby has 'em in stock, but I'm not holding my breath.

The Alesis PHOTON, CME UF5, E-MU Xboard and Edirol pcrm boards all look well worth checking out too.

Actually, scratch the Photon. It looks like you can only get it with 25 keys. Pity, cuz that sphere control thing looks like it could be pretty cool.

btw, SE nor the vanilla ReMOTE do NOT have aftertouch, only the new SL has it, at least according to the specs on Novation's site. If anyone has it: how well does the aftertouch work? I have supernova2, and the AT is a bit flaky (the keys could be defected, too). And how is the automap feature working?

I was thinking of getting the ReMOTE SL Zero, it just looks so damn sexy and tweakable And big plus for the display for the parameters!
