When assigning parameters to a midi controller (whether by preset or by learn midi option).
What do you think are the most important parameters to assign?
I know that naturally first of all it depands on the amount of assignable parameters you have on your controller and the number of addresses given in the manual.
So, assuming you have a quite full list of addresses (like in the v-station case) and a limited amount of assignable parameters (in my case, 8 knobs, 8 slides and 6 buttons)
What would you assign in this case?
(apart from cutoff and resonance, i guess that goes without saying...)
peace

i like also :
FM
PITCH (octave selector)
AMPLITUDE ENV : attack & release
NOISE
GLIDE/PORTAMENTO SPEED
& for the rest depend of your soft/hard ware isntrument.
Some time is possible to assign a midi controler @ a few interleaved parameters.

don't get me wrong mate, i didn't mean to complain that i don't have enough knobs and slides. on the contrary, i agree it's quite enough for a midi-controller...
i just wanted to check how other ppl will make use of those options, in the case of vst's that have a full list of addresses.
thanx for replying anyway...

What midi controller would you guys recommend for work with CubaseSX.
I havent used a midi controller before so something elementary for start will do it. I have few tips on M-Audio and Edirol midi contollers. Anyone using those? :] |

i would us the sliders for the envelopes, u can control 2 adsr's like that. Then i would use one knob for cutoff and one for resonance (erm... which is quite obvious i presume). I would leave the pitch on the pitchbend (though it can be fun to use it for other things). I always attach a knob to the LFO-speed of every lfo (if there aren't more then 2 of them), and i always use a knob for every modulation amount control (my pulse only has 4 slots in it's matrix, and those 4 amount-controls are attached to their own knob on my controller, if u have a much bigger modulation matrix i wouldn't attach all the amounts to a knob...). The rest depends on my mood... |

I use an Oxygen 8 with Logic.... One of the few things that annoys me about Logic is the lack of ease when it comes to assigning knobs. Bear in mind that I started off using Orion where all you had to do was right click on what you wanted to control and hit assign to midi controller...
You gotta pull some crazy environment stuff to make that work in Logic, and I still haven't figured out how to make the environment my biznatch...

depends on what kind of sound will you play
i like to have all the synth params avaible at the same time, so i can switch to any kind of sound when i want
1. Filter Freq and Res
2. LFO pitch ammount
3. LFO rate
4. Pitch env attack
5. Pitch env decay
6. OSC mono switch (to change from legato to multi voice for chords)
7. Some FX params, usually the WET param from delay/reverb.
cheers!

yeah fruity is like 2 sec to link it.. and dont even need cc# u just click "last tweaked parameter" then link to controller or edit event... very simple and reconize all vst synths
i guess thats why pplz make trax in more then 1 day in cubase.. and u go all this trouble to connect just controller.. u must think u are pro now
