i searched and couldnt find anything. if there are threads about this subject, please inform me. anyway, my question is this...
what should i be looking for in a midi controller? i have been looking at the oxygen 8 from m-audio and i think it looks decent for a small-time producer like me. any suggestions on cheap controllers and/or advice on what i should be looking for would be greatly apriciated. this is just a subject i know nothing about. thanks for your help. |

by the way, i see a lot of people having troubles linking their controller with vst's and vsti's, is there a reason? is usb the best way to link or what? any additional hardware info will help to. thanks

i got a radium 61 which is the bigger version of oxygen, i think its better and worth it for the money because you dont have to keep pressing the octave +/-, since oxygen 8 doesnt have enough range.
also, i directly connect it to the sound card so no usb is needed. everything works perfectly. "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Yeah, that Radium looks totally bad-ass. The Oxy is one of the original 'popular' controllers and the Radium basically one-upped it. The hardware connections on any controller are pretty straightforward.
The problem people have with linking the knobs is just ignorance of how sequencers are setup... understandable ignorance, because Logic is way, way more cryptic about that than it needs to be. Most people end up not bothering and just automating shit later.
The Cubase method still takes a bit of figuring out but I thought it made more sense.

well there are some parameters u should check
how much octaves u want?
how much controlesrs u want?
what type of controller? (sliders - knob - perc. pads)
if u use usb2 keys make sure u install usb2 into ur computer
i dont use that now.. but there are some with presets ready for cubase and vst..
i reccomend (and gonna buy it very soon) - korg microkontrol

The edirol pcr is also a very good controller-keyboard!I got the pcr30 and it's been workin great for me.It's much better than the oxygen and cheaper than a radium i think, though i don't have any experience with a radium so i can tell what's best. |
