midi controller automation problem

Hello, I'm using cubase and albino 3, and attempting to automate the filter cutoff with an oxygen8 controller.

If I write the automation by hitting the write button and using the mouse to move the cutoff knob in albino, it reads the automation successfully.

If I assign the cutoff knob in albino to a knob on the controller using the ecs option, when I hit write and turn the knob on the controller, it sounds and looks like the cutoff knob is turning in albino. However, when I hit read, it just plays wherever the knob left off and doesn't read the automation.

Huge thanks in advance for any help!

MIDI control of knobs is separate to VST automation, although there is an easy way to make them work together. Go into Preferences -> MIDI and make sure 'MIDI Controller Input to Automation Tracks' is ticked. The MIDI controller information will now be recorded as VST automation for that CC# on the MIDI track controlling Albino, ie. you have to have that MIDI track selected and write-enabled for automation when recording your controller movements. I'm not sure if it will also record the equivalent automation on the Albino instrument track but I don't think it does; give it a try though and you'll find out

Another thing to do is just hit the record button in the transport while you're tweaking the knob on your keyboard. Colin's method is definitely a permanent fix though... You just need to remember that the info that's going through your controller to the albino is midi and not the vst automation parameter. I tend to use the retroactive record function especially for the albino. you can find that in the key commands.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
