So, for my live setup, I want to be able to control parameters on more than one step sequencer (WOK ClockWOrK) from the same midi control mapping, without toggling between scenes, and Ive tried all sorts of possibilities, and kinda learned that I don't know enough about midi control routing, and what plugins are used for what purpose. For all I know Ive already messed with something that would do the trick.

I want the sequencers to both run at the same time, but only control one at a time, with only one set of CC.

Im using Ableton with Max4Live in windoze and Ive combed VST sites and the Max4 database for stuff and now I have tons of Max plugs and even more confusion.

Any help, advice, direction to proper online databases where I could learn more, any and all is appreciated.

Have a look at this-
Midi Ox and Midi Yoke
You can find it here:

http://www.midiox.com/

If I understand
your question correctly, than you have to
root your plugins in Ableton to different
Virtual Midi Yoke ports and rooting this
output outs with Midi Ox to one real Midi Out
to your hardware....
(or to a Midi Input to Ableton back?!)

Here is an example,
he uses LoopBe instead of MidiYoke for
a virtual midi routing and he wanted to
controll one VSTi with some hardware controllers

Are you controlling the step sequencers within one instance of Live?

Also, do each of those step sequencers have a MIDI Learn function?

Yes, one instance of Live, and I thnk they have midi learn, I 'config'ed and mapped them with Live.

My issue is that these things hog up all teh CC, for one sequencer, there's 26 CC mappings the way i have them now. I want to be able to map the note-skips and velocity knobs also, which would be another 24 mappings per sequencer.

What I want basically is to have one set of CC with a switch or something, that I can activate/deactivate which sequencer is being controlled

If you don`t want to go the
midi ox way,
than maybe this can helps you-
i found it today on kvr,
but I have no experience with this:

http://vstboard.blogspot.com/

Today I uses NI Maschine as plugin in Cubase4.
It is not cheap, but I have a lot of fun with it. It is like every of your vst has
it`s own hardware sequencer...!

ooh its got an x64 version, im interested

Ive looked long and hard for a MIDI-mappable step sequencer, you would be amazed hwo hard it is to find one. Just a straightforward, mono, analog-style step seq that lets everything map to controllers, so I can play the sequencer live without messing with teh mouse or piano roll or prearranged patterns... Theres some neat ones out there, xoxos inparticular has a good rack of various algorithmic and other experimental type sequencers, but sadly theyre not usually mappable. Thesys is nice but again, too much pre-playing fiddling around. All the modern style sequencers seem to be flashy and full of features, which is exactly what I dont want; I just want to twist knobs to cahnge notes, and hit pads to mute or skip, I don't need parameter sequencing, or chords, or LFOs, or all the bells and whistles...

So far ClockWOrK, TubeOhm Stepper, and an older one called Apollo do what I want.

I did kinda manage a workaround, at least half of my issue is solved; I assigned each seq its own channel, so thres plenty of CC. But I still have to toggle between 2 scenes for each one... Im trying to consolidate everything to one rack and one seq right now          .

If you want a MIDI mappable step sequencer, check out Thesys by Sugar Bytes. I like that one and use it now and then (when I'm not using my "AM Midi Master" rack).

If you have a controller knob which uses a general MIDI CC, you should be able to map it to multiple parameters. I've done this before (esp. with "MIDI Learn" on a plugin). Maybe I'm not following you there. Hmmm

I'd definitely check out Thesys. Sugar Bytes have been making some very nice plugins and instruments lately.

yes they do

I guess i should be 100 clear; ClockWOrK is something I use in my live setup only, not studio stuff, its just like an analog step sequencer minus about 3000 bucks. I use it for on-the-fly sequencing.

Ive tried Thesys, maybe I was overwhelmed or something but it seemed more like something I would have to create patterns in before playback, idk tho, i ought to give it a second look... I like ClockWOrK mainly cuz its simple, and all the parameters are mappable.

Im kinda leaning towards just getting rid of one of the rack/sequencer groups, its kinda a bit too much for intuitive live play...

Also looking into Usine, LiveProfessor, and even Audiomulch as potential Live-alternates           .
