Namlook, Spyra, Atom Heart...
What's up with that? Is it the sound, the tunes
or simply nostalgia, but I want to listen to this music again and again, 10 years later.

Yes, i absolutely second that. But have a listen to the latest spyra and namlook releases, some of them are really good.
btw: Atom heart = senor coconut
(http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=gr7JDIKpjdk&feature=related) He's doing really weird cover-versions now, but I like that, too.
At parties it can sometimes be enjoyable for the chillout to play some of these mid-90s-ambient-techno classics. Another favorite of mine are the older releases by Aural Float (new stuff is too much ambient-pop). Especially the first album Introspectives (http://www.discogs.com/release/16162 is great stuff. Dub Up the Virus is still a fantastic track for the more danceable moments in the chillout.
Any further recommendations in that direction (not so much 'psy'-chill)?
Cheers!

How about Future Sound Of London albums?
Kinda dark but I still enjoy them. |

Thank you for the tip.
Aural Float is absolutely stunning album.

I still listen to and enjoy a my Recycle or Die CDs. "Silk" and "A Mission into Drums" to name two. While not as ambient, releases from related label Eye Q are still quite nice as well. |

yay, i found a fellow enthusiast
never had a chance to get hold of all the recycle or die albums and now it's just impossible...
i've got "bean me up, scotty" and the "backlash" compilation & b-zet's album and the 2 wonderful "behind the eye" compilations on eye-q. these releases are very special to me.

Me too, definitely. Especially lots of Eye-Q releases are timeless to me....Don't forget Earth Nation, their livesets (sometimes with a real drummer) were fantastic.
Spicelab/L.S.G./Oliver Lieb releases from the nineties go in a similar direction, like that very much, too.
@vladza: if you like Aural float, then you have to try to get a listen to "Dub Up the Virus", it's not included in any album, only on some compilations, e.g. http://www.discogs.com/release/90145. Maybe you can find it in some download store.

talking about classic gems one can't hold back the legendary x-mix and 3 lux series from !k7 with many classic tunes ranging from ambient and techno to trance and back then top notch & nowerdays hilarious gfx (BUT if you put those fireworks glasses on they still kick a$$)
these were (and still are) my favourites:
http://www.discogs.com/release/437730
http://www.discogs.com/release/339476
+ if you want some not so "psy" chill i'd recommend
http://www.elektrolux.com/releases/index.html
if the label isn't familiar already.
i enjoyed the ambient diaries and dub backups very much at one time...

Hey man, I LOVE elektrolux. Good to see that they are known in the psychill-scene as well. I have some of their artist-albums and a friend of mine is label dj for them, his project phonosynthese released two albums on elektrolux. Elektrolux once was my favorite chill-label, but now you have to select carefully, because there is a lot of cheesy ambient-pop among their releases...more intreresting nowadays are the releases of their sub-label mikrolux - more like electro-chill.
Maybe i'll dare to post some mixes once in a while with such a kind of music. Some tracks in that direction go very well with psychill...
Are the "space night"-compilations known outside of germany ??? from the mid-nineties until 200?, it was the soundtrack to the night-loop of a german regional tv station. they broadcasted views of earth from outer space, (very nice chilled visuals for coming down).
Space Night II, III and IV (compiled by the aural float guys) are sold on ebay for ridiculous prices. |
