if you are low on money then i would go for the microwave.,
it produces a lot of different sounds and has nice filters.,
it has a nice digital character (with analogue filters, but the XT vresion has nice digital filters but they sound analog)
the 101 has a lot less capabilities but has a good bass sound., very fat but limited.,
also, it doesnt have midi, (unless someone added it later) so you cant hook it up to your computer.,
and the 101 is mostly analogue so you dont know how long it will live .,
both are great synths but have a totaly different character,
greets.,

The SH101 is the KING of the bass. It's very commom and overused in any kind of trance, but it's amazing and punchy.
Its envelope's Attack is much faster than any other synth (analog or digital), so if you wish have the BASS, it's THE machine. But only that. Microwave is another kind of synthesis (wavetable) and it's capable to emulate great analogue sounds as well. I have a Waldorf Microwave XT and it has incredible basses (like Moog, TB303), but pads, strings, leads etc. are there as well. Its attack is more slow, though.
For bass, I would go to SH101, for any other sounds I would choose the microwave. |
