hello
What are some good quality microphones for vocals that can be used both live and in the studio? What are the advantages and disadvantages of phatompower?
Thanks. |

You cant say that there are advantages and disadvantages with phatompower. Either a mic requires phantompower to work or not.
If you want a mic for live vocals a Shure SM58 is a good choice but its not very sensetive so for studio vocals it might not be ideal for you, UNLESS you sing really loud and if you have a very clean high gain preamp. Imo a clean (low noise) preamp with lots of gain is a must for the SM58 unless you record really loud sounds like snare drums or so.
I really recommend a condenser mic for studio. They are in general A LOT more sensetive than dynamic mics (Sm58 is a dynamic mic) but they wont work live for that reason (feedback loops).
If you can afford it get a Sm58 and a condenser mic. |

Depends on how much money you have, just like with everything.
