i was havin a little thought the other day about what it is about the live act that is so profound for me. Maybe i was just trippin but it sorta seems like the live act or duo d.j'ing is a kind of a metaphor for the psytrance fan, like most fans(please excuse the generalization) are just hard working class individuals and so are the d.j.s. It kinda goes back to the point or idea that the goa d.j./artist is one of us, a hard working individual who just likes to party. A kind of person who isnt interested in the money but is all about the experience, the moment, about tapping in to that resonating sound of the earth, the ohm. Anyways when i see a live act in psytrance with two or more guys up there goin nuts, creating the most mind blowing, uplifting sounds imaginable its so much more powerful then when i go see a rock band playin a concert or when i go to a club. The most disapointing thing for me when experiencing live music is when the guys who are performing seem uninterested and bored, tsfonim(sp) d.js. We have all been to the party where the dj thinks of himself as just too cool and so when you watch him he barely does anything besides just standing and lookin cool. When you see the two d.js up there goin crazy it makes you feel more conected to them, it shows them as hard workin individuals, they are interested in making you have a better time, they live for that. The psytrance dj is not a celebrity, he's one of us, just a hard workin bloke havin a good time.

Well, most of the DJs and artists started out as ravers. They grew from inside the party scene, and they are definately part of it. Psytrance artists don't ask for 1st class airplane tickets or fancy hotel accomadation. On the way to Samothraki (on the ferry), a friend of mine was talking to this really cool guy he smoked with in Solipse. Later that day it hit me that the guy was Frank E. He acted like just another guy on the way to Samothraki, if my memory wouldn't have finally combined the face with the name, I wouldn't have figured it out until the Koxbox live act. I've seen artists and DJs going off from playing and dancing like crazy to the sets after them (happens less in Israel, don't really know why)... and that's exactly the way it should be.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

veeery nice thaughts i have to say...i also have my two cents to it.
i have seen much live's/dj's which made party with us, like dancing as crazy as we did, but behind the consoles/tables.
for example hux flux came down to the dancefloor after their act and served us a bit of "hux-dancing"
in fact, this is the part that makes it such personal...even electronic music is made of machines, and u can't "hear" the person who made, its just less personal than rock music f.e..
but the fact that live's/dj's are involved in partys makes it so special i think...just personal.
for me the guy who hit the engines is something like the man who plays the guitar....but still it isn't a "god-like" aura that embraces the guy, its just a nautral person which makes good music

DJ culture sucks. a DJ can put his insight on music but the whole "a DJ is GOD" concept is bogus.
Live Act is the real thing and A DJ is only a massenger, a delivery man is u want, but the artist is the cook, Whatever that means.

DJ's have a huge ego, u can pop it with a headpin.

I dont mean to hurt anyone, and i love to see intersting DJ who make new and innovative sets, but for pressing play or mix plain and predictble tracks, i have winamp.

Plan_B you dont have a clue of what a DJ is do you?

Why do you thing that Dj's are being booked all over the world and get paid all this huge ammounts of money?Just to change the tracks?

I will for once again say what Atmos once said.

mike, i have to take you to task for this mate, because the unfortunate truth is that djs (in general, this is not specific to psy) are booked not just becuse they are good etc etc and will play cool music, but because they are a draw to a party and the promoter can be sure he will not lose money. Often what makes them a draw is not their innate djing talents but just their "fame" however it may have been accrued, as an example you often find members of bands being booked to dj when they may not really be that rocking as dj's (this happens in more mainstream scenes over here). Of course a psy party will hopefully not be driven by commercial considerations and the above will not apply, but... promoters stilll need food and water like the rest of us as you well know           >>love will tear us apart...<<

Hi, friend DETOX, I must agree with Plan_B, there are good DJs for sure, but I've seen very famous DJs around here that don't make more than change tracks (in one party i went to, the DJ was talking with someone during all the act, barelly touching anything).
Maybe that's because of the non exigent public around here.

Tom in order to get fame you must be a great producer or a great dj.

Take Dimitri Nakov for example who is one of the greatest and most well known names of our scene but he is not such a big producer. How do you thing that this man earned his fame?
The answer is because of his amazing dj abilities.

Full on there are good dj's just like there are bad dj's.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

As I said, there are good DJ's, But a large amount of them (Nowdays) are nothing but a JukeBox (Some times a lousy one.), Now, it's all about innovation (To Me), I used to DJ, and when i did'nt have anything new to say, i just quit (I was'nt big or nothing, , but u get the picture),
The Old Days, DJs like sid shanti Or joti were great, but today Djs come like dirt (Alot Of Them), Anyway, A good DJ is good, just that it's hard to find them among the dirt piles.

Peace Out.
