This is one of my favorites out of that group.

I worked at a tree lot for some pocket cash last year (and cheaper than a gym!) and had some really interesting conversations about the tradition. I could have written a sociology paper on it. Most surprising is that there are people who honestly think that the tradition started on the day Jesus was born.

Pine trees. In Bethlehem.

For contrast, I had people tell me that they still did it because it was the one thing they'd do as a family all year - with all of them happy and participating.

It was interesting all in all, being totally objective to the experience, growing up Jewish. Plus I got to use a chainsaw.

There are many people who wouldn't sit back and wonder why it is we carry out many of these traditions. Why chop down a tree and drag it into your home? decorate it with balls? lol.
