Has anyone played with Max/MSP? They recently released a version of it for windows... steep learning curve but you can get some really tweaked sounds! I don't have a MIDI setup yet so I just use the computer keyboard to control a fundamental frequency, but it can be used for all kinds of things..

Miller Puckette has co-created Max at Ircam. He wasn't enthusiastic about the marketing strategy at Ircam, so he created "PD" (public domain), which is essentially the same as Max/MSP, but it's free and works on windows (long before Max did).
When combined with GEM, you can also easily integrate graphics, pictures and video in interactive projects.
You can download PD for free and it works for windows.

PD in combination with GEM is incredible!
All the information necessary for learning is online, but you need some basic understanding of digital audio, synthesis/sampling, MIDI, and programming.

I constructed a big Cube with Ultrasound sensors in each corner and on the sides, which detected body movements. The sensors's varying resistances were transformed into MIDI messages. There were also pads on the floor whith varying resistance when you stepped on it. Moving inside the cube sent MIDI messages to PD and samplers (note ons, controllers, etc). Some messages also controlled graphics and video in GEM, inside PD, which were video-projected from the outside onto the semi-transparent "walls" of the Cube.
Up to 5 people could wander around in the Cube simultaneously. This actually created some really nice tunes by moving and dancing!

Very creative programs! Offer total control and options which are not possible on standard software such as reaktor and/or hardware.

Wow! I had tried to get pd working under linux once in the past but had lots of difficulty so kind of went back to try writing random things to /dev/dsp >:] I had no idea about GEM or how well pd actually worked... was waiting for max/msp/jitter to come out for windows for quite a while now (jitter is due soon I think) I have some ideas about how to use the whole body as a graphics/sound controller but my plans are much more expensive than your elegant solution... I'm don't know so much about electricity but it sounds really incredible! Maybe you can eloborate more on the technical details so I can play with full-body sensors on my VERY low budget... soon I will try to get a usb->midi adapter so I can get some real control goin on... pressure-insensitive ascii only goes so far.           "Creation is an expression of God searching to unify with the Source." - Rabbi Simcha Weinberg
