MATRIX - compiled by La Nebuleuse
released on Tikal records (TIKCD001)

1. "Chattles" - KINDZADZA
2. "Serendipity part1" - CYBERLIONS
3. "Bipspil" - SYNTAX ERROR
4. "Alberts New World" - CYBERLIONS
5. "Serendipity part2" - ACTIVATE MORLACK VS CYBERNEBULEUSE
6. "Wobble troll" - MIDIPIN POWERS
7. "Ibiza punkstar" - MUSCHAW
8. "Earthman" - GRAPES OF WRATH
9. "Bartagma" - TEXAS FAGGOT

Okay, Ohmboys & Psygirlz : fasten your seatbelts, check the bass dial on your amp and press play!!
But please let me premind you : this is an All Smoking flght.

With this storming 9track compilation, monsieur la Nebuleuse introduces us to his preference in trance, which is the wild-n-freaky, more full on version of what we've been hearing lately (at least, most of us). Most trax are stuffed with a bass strong enough to help you digest that heavy meal you just had half an hour ago... better than coffee doing that trick.

Looking from a point-of-total-overview , me thinks the only thing lacking here, is a part of ease, a point of rest amidst this ocean of bass and beats, bleeps and squeaks - maybe only the finishing track being a sweety for desert.
But anyone who's ever been on a trancefloor set afire by captain Neb, will admit it goes perfectly well with his style, so i say this cd is a true "businesscard" for the man in charge.

Let me highlight a few of the trax with my (ahum) metaphorically enriched way with words ..

2) "Serendipity - part1" by Cyberlions : one of the more funny, easy going trax with a wobbly bass, nicely changing from double-up to gallop and back again, rolling on till it gets transposed to a higher plane. Subliminal screatures screaming for attention untill ... untill the skunk (isn't that Pepe le pew?) stinks them all away.

3) "Bibspill" by Syntax Error : Jaffe hits us with a wild and sneary snaredrum and releases the screature again, making it haunt us from atop a steady stepping bass (eat your heart out, GMS-adepts : this one goes just a level beyond your standard issue cheese sandwich for lunch). After the break, some xtra spike, bass starts gallopping ahead and bleeps running around your brain. Error overruled.

4) Cyberlions again, with "Albert's New World" : our dear uncle Albert (flashback to Psychoactivity there, Neb?) Hofmann is being silenced after his short intro and only gets permission to pronounce his favorite 3letter word a few times, later on. The bass -pushing a heavy groove- leads the way into the realms of Albert's new world, ready to take us over the edge. ..but then, who's driving that toytrain, coming in from the midrange ?? Sounds like the dj wants to change track from psytrance back to house anthems. Very funny!

5) "Serendipity part2" by Activate Morlack vs Cybernebuleuse : here's that skunky little animal again, always willing and able to persuade us onto the dancefloor by spiking our drinks (a "Morlack on the drops", with garcon Nebuleuse shaking -not stirring- the juice). Some sounds are "typical" Morlack, yet sound harder (or "less refined") this time .. or just more "Nebby"?! Feel for yourself.

6) "Wobble Troll" by Midipin Powers : nice and trippy. Drums driving away into the darkness over deeply reverb-e-rated bassways, with a snearing synth in hot pursuit. Keep your brain on the road and GO!! O and euh : don't let your trip go bad just because Brad Pitt calls you delusional and paranoid !!

8 ) G.O.W. with "Earthman" : a very spacey track , headfirst onto the dancefloor in the darker hours of the night (not recommended to start a set with). Strong tempo, nicely changing drums (apart from the kickdrum) and percussion (if you are still able to associate the likes of any musical instrument with these sounds). Waves of bass get a tad bit predictable (and recognizable .. "Short Circuit", anyone?) but roll along the shores quite digable. Everybody please take your trancepositions before we go over the top somewhere around the climax! Yee-Hah!!
Together with track #2 , my two personal favorites of this release.

9 ) And then, "Bartagma" by the Texas Faggot, to finnish this compilation in the eye of the storm, nice and sweetish (no not swedish) as -it seems- only the Faggot can. RUN BARTAGMA RUN!!!!

(...)

Well, summing it all up, i'd say : Nice One, Mate !! This one kicks ass. Like i put it before: a little more variability would've been nice , but this is the way we get Neb's stuff : Full On .. or all off
As i've played this cd for some other ears than my own, i get to hear some remarks made by the mouths that stand inbetween these ears. Some say "very GMS, but farther and fatter" , other points of hearing put it "very much in direction of Huxflux and beyond" .. up till now, only one set of ears let me know that this cd is "too much, you can't play this for people" ... well, of course that doesn't sum it ALL up. You will have to listen yourself, that is, if you're still able to get your hands on one!

This is not the most conventional trance album you will find in the shops, but you won't find a more logical full on progression from today's "progressive" trance. And if you do find one , please let us know right here!!

if you find this one you are lucky!

it was made in 2001, and the label went under afaik
also i remember hearing something about the fact that none of the artists were ever paid and there was some poor business with the licensure of some tracks

this is full on trance madness as it should be, no holds barred, no formulaic crap, just psychedelic mind melters. and La Nebuleuse is still bangin away in the totally wacko style, hahahaaaaa

i still pull this one out now and again, and freak out dancefloors when the lysergic is flowing....

Bobo & all Others

nice one & thnx for the re:plies
only 3 years and already a relic,
this compilation has got quite some story to it

i did hear some details about the Tikal situation
from Nebz himself
but i dont remember every detail
due to some greenish foggy circumstances ...

all i can say, it deserves to have a spot
amongst all the rest, out here

& indeed, you're lucky if you find one ..
.. maybe soon in amsterdam (!)

more info on that, later on
