Then you can also start to discuss how simple you really can do it...
there are speedy mastering and then there art state of the art mastering, where all details are considered.
The dude is probably good, like many others are!
Also you must consider that having a famous mastering engineer might also boost recognition for the album...
And i am not saying that a famous one will do a better job, he will most probably only take more money...
Also to consider, is there analog equipment used, is the music run through some expensive tubes and EQ´s
Also do you want your album to sound totally maximized or do you want some dynamics left.
you will notice that the sound picture will change drastically once you boost the track to its limits, it can sound good but it can also destroy some very nice music... Consider that your ears get tired faster the more squeezed the tracks are.... Are you out for a sound experience or a Blast to the head, "hey listen here"
maybe this thread can list various mastering engineers so we can listen and find out...

I've worked with Colin since.. ehm.. well, I guess that we've worked together for 2½ years at least, haven't we, Colin? At any rate, I'm more than pleased with his work for Devils Mind Records.
+1 on having Colin master your material

Some of the samples sounded worse than the original material, especially the Folk and Soft Rock ones (Imho).
This isn't mastering, it's submissiving |

dont know this dude but to work with someone that have experience with pystrance for mastering is better for one thing, you can judge his work easier with some tracks /mastering already released and the feedback of other artists |
