Detox, i don't really know where you got this information from. OTT has great mix when i don't believe he or Twisted use 1million dollar studio same goes for Digital Structures.
Cosma used simple sound card + simple software when he achieved much more than most of nowadays artists can. So not the money spent on studio talk. It is just the guys who master Massive Attack and Massive Attack themselfs know bit more about talent than some artists you mention by flat limited mix. |

i may be wrong but i'm sure OTT has a big fatass studio... and just go take a look at the high hat studio gear on the DS site, and u'll see...

gear is good but not a must to have good sound.. one of the most skilled producers nowdays mr Freq making his fat tunes with 4000$ studio.. pc, monitor and software.

that's for sure, but talking about professional mastering, u cannot make a real mastering by using only cubase software,
u need extra hardware , professional compressors etc...

I have been to the High hat "Son Kite Studio" (It's not the DS studio since they haven't got a studio yet) and it's certantly not a million dollars studio. They got some cool gear though.
As for Ott I am pretty sure it's cool equipment but again certaintly not a million dollar studio too.
And I agree with Detox. The Massive Attack Studio is indeed a very expensive studio.
I could not finde a reference to Massive Attacks Studio setup but here's a link. I can tell you it's not cheap to use the whole Protools Professional Setup and to hire Musicians

Wasnt it you that set Massive Attack as an example in the first place?
And still i dont see what the mastering of OTT and Digital Structures has to do with the mastering of Massive Attack.

I do agree with you EYB. I too find the Mastering of most artists releases in this scene merely ok but nothing more. Certantly not amazing and spetacular 
I do think it's because it's very very expensive to get the music mastered with truely professional Mastering Studios. So the labels tend to go to friends studio's and that's more than ok but the result wont turn out as good as it could be.
But in a scene with so evident lack of funding and investments as ours the mastering results are actually quite high. |

Well said HandA.
A good mastering by a professional in a big studio costs more than 5000 euros which for some labels is equivalent to the money they pay their artists for tracks in a whole cd.
The psy trance market is very small for such expenses,if one day the people start buying their music instead of copying it or downloading it then who knows some labels might invest their bigger profits on better mastering and better packaging

Exactly,
Massive attack works with a major, im sure they mix in a real studio with a 500 000euro Mixtable, and each channel on a tabel like that got so much dynamic, that it get any producer in the world a hardon 
BTW im sure if you would give any Psychedlic producer the studios and financial possibilitys that these guys have, they would kick there ass in mixing and by far !
Making full-on (specialy with a vb-1) is like playing FIFA in easy mode, you're always sure to win. |

Detox, i've said that it is all about skills and not equipment. Equipment can help but without proper ears you can't do anything. Son Kite, OTT and Massive Attack are long time producers so they gain experience nor super studio setups only. Example was to show you that some artists can do proper mastering.
