Hey folks. So I just completed my first completely live ambient set with a friend ( no pre-recorded audio - just synth patches and send FX and two keyboards) and it was so fun and inspiring that I really want to try it out with dance music.
However - IMO some things just can't be made well enough on the spot and need to be tweaked and processed beforehand - kick and bass especially.
So for a live set, I want to take my tracks that are split into kickbass / leads / percussion / fx / atmosphere and only use the kickbass or the fx or whatever stems in my live set...
But I don't want to leave them at their unmastered levels. I psuedo master my own material at the moment with Izotope Ozone - I have a project with my stems and then use Ozone on the master and then render that down and that's my 'mastered' track.
Could I just insert Ozone onto each individual stem channel with the same settings and process the stems? Would that be the same??

I could do that, but that's not really what I want...
I really push my laptop hard with ableton and a bunch of Omnisphere shenanigans, so having another hefty plugin processing a lot of data in the middle of the liveset is not ideal - trying to eek out every drop of power I can, so only going with the stuff that I need...
I want that 'mastered' level quality for a live set in the area where it matters the most to me - the low end....then noodle around with drums and the rest over the top.
Would it be so simple as just...muting the other stems and then rendering and using that? I feel pretty silly.
But...something tells me that if I were to take my mastering chain and apply it to each stem and then mix those stems together the sum of the mastered stems would be different then the stems all processed at the same time by one mastering chain?

better process everything first, in order to be as light as possible.

Heh, yeah I love liine products -though for my setup the oher night I used Griid and not Kapture pad...
Griid for mixing/clip triggering on one ipad, Omnisphere's ipad app on another ipad and an APC40 mapped out for stylus RMX and send FX.
its a ton of fun
I'm actually thinking now that I might import loops of the kick/bass into Stylus as long as doing so doesn't damage it in any way...

Yeah I've seen that video, but my live set strategy is a bit different than that and the methods aren't really ones that I want to use - thanks though
I guess for now I'll just try applying the mastering chain as usual and then rendering only the kick/bass and see how that sounds - but any more suggestions would be great

I don't think you really need to master chill out. If your mix is good it doesnt really need alot of mastering. In dancemusic the level would drop too dramatically. But that doesnt really matter with chill out.

Yeah...I agree. I did say in my OP that I wanted to do live dance music
For the chillout set my partner and I just did all the mixing live.
