hi

i have one doubt.
ok i have my .wav file ready in 48/24 so now i open my fav audio editor open the file and render a chain of plugins. the last plugin should be limiter...ok using Ultramaximazer L2 so first quastion is about quantize...so what should one select here??24bit???

ok...after rendering i have rendered 48/24 and now i convert to 16 bit, (make it 44/16) and save it under a new name...is this the right procedure???

many thx           http://www.myspace.com/elektrikboyspace

if you are converting to 16bit, first you dither the 24bit file at the desired target depth, which is for you 16bit... and then you reduce the bitdepth of the file.

Dithering should be applied once and last before bit reduction.          Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

And it is usually better to bounce and produce your track in 44.1 khz.. read the http://forum.isratrance.com/professional-samplerate/ topic about it.           soundcloud.com/supergroover

@ Trip- ok so in my pluging chain to be applied to my 44/24 file, my L2 should have 16 bit in quantize option right???
then i render and convert to 16bit...save.

many thx!!..this was helpful!!:)           http://www.myspace.com/elektrikboyspace

like trip said, dont forget about the dithering. always dither when bouncing down from higher wordlength.

but imo you should go 24 bit with the l2, cause dithering is the absolutely last step, i always separate this step from the mastering. its the very last step before gettin things on cd or stuff. so i export the master in 24 bit, keep this file for several reasons and for release i would dither down separately.

also there are many different dither modes where you have to get familiar with and choose the one fitting your music. always depends on the source dunno what to recommend now.

hope that kinda helps, cheers           FUCK GENRES, LOVE MUSIC!!!!

lets see if i have it clearly now...
ok so L2 will be having this settings:

quantize: 24bit
dither: none
shaping: none for instance...

then render save as 24bit file.

when to burn cd i open the 24bit file apply dither and save as 16 bit.

yepp, that´s the way to go keep in mind this is my opinion, sure one could go for other ways. try what sounds best to you and gives the best result at the end.

This is what I do too, except that I produce undithered 32-bit masters, which I then dither and truncate and save-as as necessary.
