Does anyone have an experience in mastering of DJ mixes? I'm a bit confused, because all tracks used in mix are already mastered and loud, but they have a bit different loudness and character. I want to make the mix more smooth without damaging maximized tracks. Any ideas?

Import the whole mix in wavelab or soundforge. Then select the tracks that aren't as loud & process them individually. This way you can bring them up to roughly the same level of loudness.

^I the problem is differences in RMS levels of the individual tracks, not really the mix areas..in which case limiting the entire thing will sound terrible.
I would just automate the limiter threshold wherever it's needed.

Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me? |

Just learn to mix with gains, if you learn to mix tracks at the same volume and learn to mix tracks that fit well together then there shouldn't be any need to do anything afterwards.

^^ ...and may the indicators help you!
While the current track is playing, listen the middle or some loud point of the next track and check what indicators tell you. Compare that to the current track, imagine the difference and mix!

Completely agree with the last two posts
Also learn your tracks back to front, know exactly when to add or reduce gain and practice, practice, practice, this way you will learn to mix at an even level without needing to edit your mix afterwards. Great for being able to mix well live too
Good luck

Honestly, I've always found better sounding results, with more work that is straightforward, to bring my DJ mixes into a DAW, and mix varying levels with automation. Once I have a fairly smooth sounding entire mix, then I'll throw a limiter on it to bring the max level up.
Use of limiter at this point, in my opinion, should be extremely light, generally no more than 1 to 1.5 dB of reduction.

Exactly.. Adjusting gain in post-pro is fake.. Only thing I use is a mixer with 2 gain knobs and built in limiter..
