i think your mix is good man, you re really close to sound killer ! i got just one listen but i think you removed a little bit too much sub bass (but if you like it like that.. matter of taste )then the place of some sounds in the stereo field could be improved (i think some are too much in the middle )and the mix was sounding dry to me, it miss a killer reverb! (everyhting a bit in front and sometimes behind it feel a bit empty ) it just the small details you need to improve a bit but it sound good already.(basically i think it need a bit more depth from front to behind and from side to side ) |

haha PoM, whats wrong with you? i thought you
would give us hard critics... but you praise us^^
i did not cut any low freqs, a miniboost with RBass
we made at 80Hz i think, but no cut. you have any
suggestion?
well, i have to admit that our reverb knowledgement
is bad... also the stereo thing... its like the often
explained 3-d thing, how you can imagine sounds...
we will work on this, thanks.
my thought goes to right EQing of the leads...
sometimes there are 3 layered leads... we tried
to give every lead sound its own place, but
somehow it nearly worked without EQing to much.
and the strange thing is, that i read often here, that layering same lead with different sounds is bullshit.
but exactly this helped us totaly to sound fuller.
so you see the problem^^
so, thanks for your "critics"^^

Hey Colin!
i checked now your mastered track.
it really sounds good! to much high boost for my
taste but with 128mp3 those hights are gone^^
could you describe in short words what you did?
im really amazed how cool it sounds!
after listening to your mastered version my mix
sounds so airless >.<
cheers

I'm pretty sure I didn't add any high boost MP3 encoding isn't what I'd normally use as top-end EQ but he, if it works for you I normally work with a high-definition spectrum analyser to help tune my ears to what's going on but like I said I didn't have my laptop set up so I didn't have all my usual tools running. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have left it with that much top-end had I been able to see as well as hear what was going on.
The mix was pretty well balanced apart from not having enough subs so most of what I did was compression. Because this was a really quick job I didn't save the exact parameters but from memory, here's what I did
The chain:
First - my Secret Weapon plugin, with a custom preset doing phase adjustment and general enhancement. Don't ask, cos I won't tell you This is what adds a lot of openness and clarity to the track.
Then:
M/S encoder
Hipass
REQ2 for bass monofication
Oxford EQ - slight boost around 50Hz, slight dip around 400Hz
Waves C1sc - custom split-band bass compression
Waves LinMB - custom multiband compression
Focusrite Compounder - wide-band analog compressor with bass enhancement
Oxford Inflator
Waves S1 (working only as M/S decoder)
Oxford Limiter

Oh i'm learning, is not that i want YOUR SECRET is that i'd really like to know what kind of tools can give:
- phase adjustment and general enhancement
- adds a lot of openness and clarity to the track
shall we play guessing?
is your secret weapon hardware or software based?

Colin said it s a plug , duuno if it s that tool or the compander that give the nice polished sound , it s sound a bit like some exciters or some kind of saturation, harmonic enhancer, it give a nice color to the track |
