In the chain put:
Waves Imager
Waves Shuffler
PSP Vintagewarmer
Waves L3 Ultramaximizer
Tweak gently and you're done

if it s for release you don t have the choice, your track ll be loud most of the time so better worry about it in the mix to be sure it have some loudness potential ,i had some old tracks sounding great at -15 rms with lot of dynamics but where sounding distorted at - 8 rms so better being carreful, sounding great at - 15 rms dont mean at all you made a good mix these day.if some tracks sound great and loud it s propably cause at the mixing stage they were already mixing with loudness in mind |

no it was just on the beat at the begining of the track (i was not happy with distortion in the low end) i used digicheck (so maby the rms i said were not very acurate, but it s the average i measured) to a/b with my own mastering to see wich one was louder and cleaner in the lowend but both were distorted |

reading with RME you can sure get to -5RMS (peak rms) with no audible distortions if your mix is clean. thats equal to -10rms in other analyzers (such as waves default PAZ preset , or wavlab) and is reasonable 'industry standart'

I still think that -5dB RMS is way too loud and really my ears dont like to listen to that stuff for too long... music can be good but that wont matter if my ears hurts..
I often use winamps own "Spectrum view" Oscilloscope style..
and most professional mastered tracks go over the limit, meaning that the soundwave gets square..(some more than others)
I try(as good as i can) to keep under this limit so the soundwaves look round... i think its a big factor for not tiring your ears..
But maybe people dont give a blank just as long their is maximum loudness! of course its nice with a well produced track! its great to have lots of control and be proper with EQ and comp and gating, Being careful with FX amounts and controlling their tales and all that... But just cause thats the case you dont have to boost the shit out of it?

yes i agree after it depend what speaker you listen the musics ,in monitors it sure tired my ears very fast but on small speakers compressed stuff can sometimes work better ( not talking about psytrance but i guess thats a reason why music is so much compressed ,these days not many have big hifi speakers like 20 years ago so engineers try to make things that sound good for what equipment the mass use. now everyone is adding subwoofer... soon maybe we ll see the war of the cleanest and biggest bass after the loudness war or maybe just a mix of both lol ...) i find it stange for psytrance ,some tracks are very compressed with no bass , it s like it have been mixed for shity car speakers or radio... or maybe it work well on big pa (cause of the bass added with the loud volume), dunno ... |
