Don't know why this is not present in the reviews i thought it was pretty good effort.
Artist: Manifold
Album: X-Ray Attraction
Label: Déjà vu Records
Year: 2005
Format: CD
Country: Russia
Songs:
01. Time for the Heist (142 BPM's)
02. Tomahawk (146 BPM's)
03. Intrusion (146 BPM's)
04. Barrel Night (144 BPM's)
05. The Wolf (142 BPM's)
06. Find Your Pokemon (145 BPM's)
07. Invited Session (147 BPM's)
08. Christmas (144 BPM's)
09. Abstract Dimension (140 BPM's)
Why we like it:
Edward & Alexander are showing a slightly more musical face of Déjà vu, even if it is freaky-sounding melodies… what else where you expecting with that cover? Manifold, like the name implies is a composition of various elements brought together: a little techno, with a bit of progressive sprinkled on top, adding a generous amount of dark psychedelia while retaining some that classic Déjà vu energy.
Why you might like it:
Is it good when a CD does not sound the same from the first song to the last? We think so too, that’s one brownie point for Manifold. The different influences that mark this relase are well assimilated in the overall production, the music is thought out and it is easily adaptable to any realm of psychedelic. It took a few weeks to feel they “x-ray attraction” but it was only a matter of time. The music is an interesting hybrid to keep dark-heads and progressive fans wanting more and that’s always an interesting cross-breed.
The ones that stood out:
* Time for the Heist
Dark mysterious pads and melodies unfurl on top of a driving drum sequence guiding you down uncertain realms of the night.
* Barrel Night
Power-rumbling kicks intertwined with deep bass lines in minimal fashion like the Russians do best. Add the Squelchy sounds with a soft underlying melody of heavenly redemption to the arsenal of sonic mayhem.
* Christmas
They have strange holidays in Manifold-land. If this song is anything to guide us by, I bet is not Santa that’s the one doing rounds on the 24th. This is as progressive as it gets with manifold, without really abusing the term too much. Power chords and even an arpeggio in the end changing song structure to ensure the listener is never bored.

this is a little but saying manifold is the best Deja Vu has done to date would be completely ignoring the Zen compilations. Especially the first one. That was a personal highlight in 2003...
as for him 'stealing' ideas from other people... i really don't know... i don't mean to defend anyone here, but a specific example for the case in point would have been apropiate

First of all I would like to say that "stealing" goes somewhere else out of this topic. If you feel some resemblances in the music, may be it is called "influence", no?
So influences would be the right thing to mention here, because they are felt through the album, showing the tastes of Mainfold duo.
The cd is really a point of development in the guys musical activities, a lot of things were done on their own before they reached this release.
So in my opinion, this is a pretty solid dancefloor material, dark sci-fi inspired stuff, yes I would call it "Russian trance", but it has many touches of styles and influences which makes it sound nice.
A good cd, showing that definately more stuff is to come.
Sorry for not giving a track-by-track review, I don't have the cd some time ago already, thanks Ed, and I don't have it at hand now. |

Finally somebody decided to review it. IMO this is a great album, i knew shit about Manifold before buying it, know this is one of my favorites projects, cant wait for more releases. Lots of Techno and electro style in a very good dark trance album. Favorite tracks:
1, 3, 4(!!!!!), 6, 7(!!)

Hmmm this didn't grip me at all. A friend of mine is completely into this kind of darker style, but I don't like it at all. It just plods along going nowhere in my ears. Like most of the darker full-on that's all the rage at the moment.

I purchased it for that hint of Cydonian leads and the slightly gothic feel to some tracks (i.e. The Wolf)... it's okay, but sort of inconsistent at times...
