- Hi, i think i found the problem why i'm getting stuck and have a slow workflow everyday...
* It's because i'm too listening my work, repeating, repeating, repeating, and then 5-10 min dancing all around the room and etc...( you know what i'm talking about )
- Is there any key solving this bad habit listen too much of your work all way around ?

The biggest problems are trying to mix the track right from the start of production. Leave it to the end! The creative process has to be fast if not the brain tired. Lets track go on and makes only the structure, organization and only just put the effects, so when the track has ready or almost ready makes the mixture and add the remains of missing elements, rearranges the effects etc etc. ..
Normally you lose more time in the construction of the kick and bass as these are the main elements in a dance track. Adds rest, put to your taste and you treat at the end.

work on 2 or 3 tracks at the same time, alternating them daily. Or alternatively don't use the loop/cycle button. Another way is to create all your sounds first then sequence them second, this can solve loopitus. |

Nice answers! I agree with them all! Hearing addiction is an important part to know about music production. I've never consider to work in different tracks in the same day, I'll take in consideration. |

Make a seperation -
What are you doing ?
1. Studio Work
2. Performing Live
3. Listening to music
4. Blasting on stage making the crowd go mad
You know you will only benefit from the right workflow.
Maybe it will help

My process is very basic. Open the arrangement and decide on the root note of the track...play around with my synths and FX and just record some FX sounds in, trying out stuff I haven't yet in order to get a better understanding of the synths I currently own. Then I start thinking about whether I am going to have a single note bassline, or start thinking about the riff the bassline is going to do. Then I grab Maschine and start laying some beats and hat/top end patterns. By the end of day one I have about 64 bars of sequenced recordings I did when I started the session. I do all the fine tuning so that them 64 bars, are as "finished" as they can be.
Then I hear it a bunch of times on repeat to see if I like the flow of things and if I get bored of it rather fast. As I listen, I mix the track to get an understanding of how it all sounds like and maybe add, or mute some things.
Then I come back to it the next day and listen again for another half hour. At that point, If I like it, I proceed with the next 64 or so bars...or go back and write an intro. If I don't like it, I keep working on them 64 bars I did from the day before, in the same manner.
By that time the track starts giving me hints of where it wants to go, so I'll just work on it in order to help it get there. I don't force things towards a direction.
But generally I find that I like getting segments of the track, as finished as possible, before I move on to the track, instead of laying sequences later on in the tune, even though if I haven't finished the earlier parts of it. Listening to the finished early stages of the track, inspires me to move on with the middle and later stages of it.

Sometimes when i'm out of ideas i just run out the house. I go shopping maybe some food to the local store. Normally half way from the store i run back to my house before i start forgetting all the 10 new ideas what just game in to my head and what i could try to add..
If i'm still in the store and nothing comes out, i just leave the track, maybe for an one day, or a week, or one year. It depends really.
I dont mind looping same four bar loop for one day if its getting progress somehow at least during the day.
I think that if i get bored during composing or mixing the track will sound boring in the end.
When you getting older and have more experience with making tracks, you will release that even one small adjustment per day can be valuable in the end. You never know how much time each track can take from the beginning.
Just trust your own way of making it, then you will be happy everyday while baking it.
I know people who can make nice track in few days including mixing and be happy with it, but to me it is impossible, when my brain needs more time to get fully supported to the result.

If you make a groove and lay some layers on it and after it the groove doesn't sound good always change the layer and never the groove even if you heard it before first go freshen up and if you maintained a steady workflow before it should work for you to keep it at the same level of sound as higher as possible. If you are sitting more then a hour without a break you are going to mishear some stuff that alone should be enough to make breaks And if you are bored from the sound try to add some edge to it if it is plain simple , some kind of twist to make it go. I find parts that had just the right thought and touch to them come out as the best while the others i did not knew how to process really come out not so glued inside

you could maybe stick to same key and save evertying that is good, presets, midi file.. then after a while you should have enough material to make the 7/8 minute.i know some artists work like this. they will make like 50 loops and then play lego with the best ones.. once you have lot of material ready you can fill the timeline and write a coehrent story as it will be fast, your idea will stay clear . if you think about it it should lead to better tunes cause you use only the best thing you produced out of the 50 loops and the rest go to the bin . |
