Yes true. But if you see it practicly, when compressing for ex. a kick, more of the kick will come through at higher bpm's at the same attack (afaik)?

Its the release stage you need to pay more attention of when you are going into higher BPM. If the release stage is slow enough so that the compressor has not stopped working on the signal until the trigger of the next kick, the gain reduction would not have rested back to 0dB. So you would have a loud 1st kick at any part of the arrangement where the kick has paused and then quieter kicks when you are back to your main beat, which is what you don't wanna be doing obviously.
If you want a really fast release on bass elements you must pay attention as to what compressor you are going to be using as some compressors (my DBX 266XL VCA compressor was doing that a lot) start distorting the signal (in a bad way) since you are starting to change the gain within the period of the source's waveform, by using a really fast release time...faster release time than the period of the lowest frequency present in the signal basically.

for this timing stuff i put myself a wallpaper together...quite handy to look up some times quickly while producing.
take them to set the stuff roughly and then do some fine tuning according to the track.
here it is:

hope it helps a bit... |
