Press record!
I love to take up this method from going from loops to a full-scale track, but instead of making a single stem loop for hours, I loop it until I have a 7/8 minute track with the basic structure, then go back and loop over it a whole bunch of times It's the way I found that is most fun, and I think that's all that counts

Yes, if you feel like you've listened to a lot of interesting sounds that just "passed by" and that you can't go back to them even if you wanted, then you know you have to review the workflow.
Hitting the record button is just the start. If you engage in making random things (and by all means, do that!) then at some point you'll have to render bits and pieces down to audio and arrange the whole into a track that works, pretty much like Knocz is saying here.
Other then that, you've got some interesting textures going on. Just avoid making it sound like some generative random thing - even if the source material was intentionally made like that. In other words: it's what you do with the happy accidents, even when you've set yourself to make them, that counts.
One simple function that can aid such workflows, I think, is simply to record several takes, then use the "fast comp" feature to quickly select bits and pieces, see how they play together, duplicate this, make another variation, so forth and so on. That's it. But interesting it is
Oh, and press record! +1 |
