hi all, well yeah...you know how pre made drum loops have that really tight sound, all the hits sound like they came from the same kit...the loop just sounds so together. Yet, i can program the exact same rythms with similar sounds and it just sounds nowhere near as good. So how can i make these loops i program sound like a pre made drum loop in terms of sound quality/texture...

1st, u need to choose drums that fit each other... u cant take a heavy snare and electric tom's and expect them to sound great 2gether ( althou u can make'em sound good.. )
some ways..
work on each drum with another drum at the background, and make'em sound "the same" i.e. play with the eq of each drum, compress a bit, play with the volume, see if u can fit the drum to the last 1 played, or choose drums from the same kit...
at the end of the loop, add some echo to each drum, to give a feel of continues playing (thats what generally u'r trying to do... ) echo or reverb is better is many occations.
make sure that the drums are not "quantized by the beat" if u'r not looking for a strict rythem... if u'r looking for a feel "huminize" the drums, to make them feel like a live perform.

thats about it, if i'll think of something else, i'll write it down...

Just to be more realistic,
I think all the loops were allready made..... it's the discovery you make yourself. using different sounds...

just add some nice tight compression to the whole channel after u finish the compression.

Melodies is not the same point though...same point with different harmonic chords sequences.

Melodies can still be different           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

basicly i think that you should use some plugins like distortion, reverb , compressor & offcourse eq on all of the samples that you wanna include in this drum loop, do it right & i'm sure you'll get thight rythem section ...

good luck....

i think i worked out a good way to get this sound...put a loop into recycle, export all the singles hits and program these

i tried a trick earlier today... u know how much i like to play wiht percussion tim but this realy did the trick...

while i was doing some expirements with Reason 2, redrum i opened up 3 bongos, one high one low and one mute... made a comfortable rythm... opened up a reverb+add sequencer track. Started playing with it kinnda cool to switch from HALL to STEREO ECHOS then to PANNED ROOMS and then back... and of course a little compression/effects thru Cubase is lovely... ill send u example

why not simply send all your kit sounds to an empty bus and then loading up your favourite filter plug? in my experience as long as the sounds are good beforehand the filter can help to shape the sounds to match eachother better. this usually works for me but there may be other solutions.
as for tight sound i would also apply a compressor to the bus to help level out the dynamics of the kit.

Syncopation, less accurate timing, using all kinds of analog or at least analog immitating effects ("tube" distortion plugins for instance, reverbs and the likes), mastering the loop only when it's complete. You can use any samples you like - as long as they fit the loop.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
