So I have been trying to make these sounds quiet a while and i think i am very close just cant get the thickness and the harmony in it that good.
what i do is chose a saw wave(or two or even more). then i put a LP filter and turn the resonance up to around 50%, then i make a filter envelope to get a "sharp" start of the sound thats falls really fast to where i put the LP cutoff originaly, then i put a HP filter and remove to low frequenzys so that it can play along with the bass not interfering and then i put a lp filter again to remove to high frequenzys as u can here these sounds are very dull but yet some higher frequenzys u get from the lower frequenzys when u lowpass it(i dont know if that is an explanation that is understandable).
I just cant seem to get the nice feeling into it though, it sounds similar but i dont quiet get these nice harmonics and the fatness of the sound and also the like "warmth" of the sound.
You think i could accomplish this by putting maybe some kind of distortion, like saturation or say overdrive. or just drive from a normal filter.
I dont know what do u think i should do to achieve so that it sounds more pleasurable to the ears and also fatter?
here are som examples of the sound in different ways to use it:

Distortion can really help. Just try different presents and vst's until you find what you want. You can also add them as a send effect (and use them parallel) so you can cut some of the unwanted distortions.

yeah i guess maybe experimenting with different distortions will get me there. could anyone say more specifically which ones though?
god tip to have the distortion as a send so that i can use plugins on just the distortion aswell, didnt think of that before |

any saturation or distortion with some tweaking would probably make it sound alot closer. Also it good to keep in mind that reverb also plays apart of it, it seems like their is a light reverb on the sound itself, then it gets sent through another reverb- which is more wide and big halled. That reverb sounds like it would be on a fx/return track... then to get the extra dubbyness it sends the signal through itself (the return/fx track) the sound itself sounds like a 24db lowpass saw-square combo with some a filter envelope, much like your original recipe more or less, you can get the same kinda sound from a rhodes. with the same lowpass and fx good luck!

This could work but could also get a bit harsh -> compress it!. The result will be having a standing frequency, thats way over the other ones, which may become unnecessary noise.
Why don't you go another way with this, and get it straight from the source? Listening to this sound (specially the last Youtube video, it's still playing ), i'd use a sine wav instead of a saw one to resynthesize this lead.
A simple sine wave with a really fast pitch bend attack, a tad of saturation and EQ so the sine doesn't have too much low or high end when pushed there, a bit of delay and reverb to fill the silence between the notes. That would be it (but in my case, i'd rapidly automate a heck of FM into the sine and making it morph into other textures during the performance hehe).

Id I understand your questions right it is the melody sounds?
Reverb and delay are a big makeup of those. Reverb and delay can be quite tricky to learn to use right. There are plenty of different types and they do not work the same. Often you might need to use several types of delays on one sound to get the right feel (such as one or two mono delays and one ping-pong). |
