post filter distortion, turn up the resonance and tweek the envelopes to match.....
if you want to go further try and emulate the osc bleed to resonance,and velocity to env decay ,env amount and volume
so distortion after the filter , and high resonance settings

ah, i used to spend days and and days making 24u of modular sound just like a 303, haha!
it's a very simple mono synth patch, but the main things the 303 has that make it hard to emulate exactly are the 18dB/oct diode ladder filter implementation, and the funky sequencer, that extends the note you accent to overlap the next one that it slides/glides into. but yeah, any basic monosynth should get you pretty close to a 303 sound. i spent the last few days playing with a 303 patch and seq303 software sequencer on my blofeld. and there's no distortion on a real 303!
1 vco 1 vcf 1 vca 1 ad envelope will get you there. maybe check links here if you need info on basic subtractive synthesis:

yeah, try Tal's Noise Maker (free). it's got a self oscillating filter, there's the 18dB slope to choose, and you can assign velocity to filter cuttoff, volume and the filter env amount (important for simulating the accent).
then it's down to writting the notes like said above and having fun tweaking

try Silverbox VST. I uninstalled all my other 303 vsts after it. Venom is also a good one but I think it's a pain in the arse to programme patterns.

Just seen Silverbox is pc only im on mac got some of the other plugins mentioned so going to give them a go today.
Yeah will check them lads out. Think i met a couple of them at the dream gathering festival during the summer. will keep an eye out for more gigs nice one

You can try on sylenth or vanguard, vanguard works better with it!
One voice, Bandpass filter or low pass 12db
Low cutoff, high ressonance, distortion 40-60%
and a Filter Envp. with a shorter decay then the amp envelop decay,release on Filter Envp. and medium-short amount.
Play with the envelopes and cut off, i really dont know how to make this without distortion to make it very "harsh" sounding...
get away from easy emulators like alien303 and others or u will never learn how to make the various amounts of Tb303 you can make, principle on vanguard

so its your chance, i have one original here on my desk. make a demo and send me a midi file, (its a modded 303) and il make your a real TB sample
ok beside.
the sample could be a 303. but it has a distortion.
i think you can easy modd your distorted alternatives try sylenth patch 1-3 (wich sound much better sometimes). but you will never get the shitty original sound.
got some of the other plugins mentioned so going to give them a go today.
