If you arent gonna overclock. get the Intel 965 boards.. stable and best.. if your buying in India. You should also get a mid-range gfx card to get the best out of this sytem.
As orange says.. go for E6600... its the best of the lot.

About the graphics card - it really matters if you intend to use your computer as a DAW or as an all-around machine. Because excluding videogames, the onboard is quite enough, and perhaps that money would be better spent on a better soundcard.
Actually, the ideal would be that you only use one soundcard, and disable the rest of the slots on your computer via the BIOS, even though this will create only a marginal difference in performance, it's still a little bit extra.
As with the CPU, I'd think perhaps watercooling + overclocking, while slightly more expensive, would also reduce the noise your computer makes, and you could get really near that 4GHz mark.

I disagree with about the on-board card.
Most of those use RAM as a graphics memory, so it slows the computer down because there's much more traffic in the memory because of the on-board graphics card.
Same thing with those "Hypermemory" and "TurboCache" laptop graphics cards, which consume both, their own dedicated memory and RAM |

thnx for all ur replies ppl .. iv decided on the E - 6600 chipset , bholenaath .why would i need a gfx card to optimise it ? im going to use it mainly as a DAW and some other very limited uses , internet mainly . i have a m audio usb card , its working good for now , so a more powerful chip and some good ram shud do it .. for now . oh .. also getting a new 7,200 rpm 80 gig hdd .. the 10,000 rpm ones are exceeding my budget just a bit so maby at a later stage .. im still confused about this SATA thing .. cudnt make much sense of it on wiki or other places on the net .. wtf is SATA ? wat do i ask for ? a SATA hdd ? or a SATA mothrboard ? please clear this if u could ..
thanx again

Ask for a SATA II HDD..my guess is between 2000-2500 in India for an 80gb.
All motherboards for Core 2 Duos will have SATA II. So dont worry about that.
Buy a low end gfx card..just make sure you get one so that as someone said it doesnt interfere with the RAM.

See...
A computer needs a graphics card or a display adapter (which could be on board) to display. If you use the Onboard gfx it needs RAM to run..which slows down the system..hence to get out the most out of your new config it is advisable to get a gfx card...

Sounds like a nice setup..
As was posted, SATA is Serial ATA..for connecting hard drives and such.. |

Serial ATA & Serial ATA 2 are just the connectors for hard drives & CD/DVD drives basically. They are smaller & faster than the older parallel ATA ports. Most devices are moving to SATA, but you'll need an adapter to use the older PATA on an SATA chain.
GEForce is a decent graphics card.
