For ambient/electronica/experimental stuff my big influence are:
Biosphere, Brian Eno, Robert Rich, Steve Roach, Ultimae Records, Ishq to name few of them.
Now for trance ofcource the old classic producers like:
X-Dream, Astral, Transwave, Etnica, ManWithNoName, ManMadeMan, Total Eclipse, Hallucinogen, Eat Static, California Sunshine etc...
Generally the most of 90's are major influence for me...Many times i look back to hear what they did, how wonderful and fresh tunes they made and everytime time i see the same thing....those guys was far beyond with music production
For example every time i hear something from X-Dream i can't believe it that their music came from 90's....its so fucking fresh everytime....

at beginning it was: hallucinogen, shakta, prana, sandman, transwave, all the 90's phantasm, dragonfly, shiva space technology & matsuri stuff.
later it was: hydraglyph, basic, esp.
now it's: metal/rock/goth music, all 70' & 80's music, big names like michael jackson. a lot of non-edm music with heart and soul.

Hawkwind and gong. If your a young pup they were pioneers from last century in psychedelic experimentation of sound. Electronic music would be very different today without them and artists like them of that period. The influences run down through the generations

When I was a musician, Dinosaur Jr, Radiohead and various metal bands were the stuff I tried to imitate, but I always listened mostly to what is usually labled as "ethnic" music, such as jewish klezmer, balkan or scandinavian folk (some of which I still listen to and take inspiration from btw).
When I started listening to electronic music it was Kraftwerk and Jarre that made me tingle.
In the trance genre it is Astral Projection, Man with no name, Transwave and MFG that has been most inspiring for me. |
