Hey guys,

would u tell me what do u guys think about Magneto, the plugin that comes with cubase.
I used to use it on every tracks i finished as insert, one slot before i set a sony oxford limiter plugging. Lately i hv beein finding weird the result that magneto gives to my tracks, it is kind giving a good caracter on the mid-highs of the track, but it takes off the punshness of the low freq area.
I like that function called "caracteristics" in magneto, i turn that up all over and the highs get that presence..
What do u guys think about magneto? Should i keep using it?

I created a couple of links at sendspace so u can see the difference between versions with and without using magneto.. The mp3 clips are just 1 mb each

Magneto + snx limiter -> http://www.sendspace.com/file/umggts

Only snx limiter -> http://www.sendspace.com/file/zh8zmd

Magneto bypassed by the end of the clip -> http://www.sendspace.com/file/x3x5hs

(This last one has the start of the clip with magneto turned on, and after the middle i bypassed it so only the limiter is affecting. this way maybe is better for u to notice the difference..)

Do u guys think i should use Magneto? Any hints?
thanks!

im with boobytripski!

Btw Magneto emulates the saturation, overdrive, and compression of an analog tape machine, if you didnt know

this might be nice on some tracks, if you think it sounds good on everything go for it

hey thanks for the answers!
would u mind listenning to the clips and tell me, wich one for your ears sounds best?
I am listenning in my home studio monitors (alesis mk II) but as u know they are not the best of the market.
I feel like with magneto turned on i hv more presence on the high freqs but the low is with less punch.. but i dont know if i am right and if in the party sound system it will be the same.

"Btw Magneto emulates the saturation, overdrive, and compression of an analog tape machine, if you didnt know "

hey sometimes i hv the feeling that magneto makes my tracks way too compressed, i feel i can turn up the volume more BUT the low is kind way too tight or something..

Camon guys, listen to the clip and give me some opinions please!

hi yantra,

well, i only heard it on cheap headphones, but i agree with your words.

with magneto: sounds a bit smoother, yet pleasant but the kick+bass is weaker, not so tight..

without: sounds a bit more "digital" but with tight low freqs

why not route all channels besides kick an bass into a group and apply magneto here, then combine with "dry" kick and bass in the master?

then you get the nice mids and high freqs with a rockin dry low freq as well...?

cheers
