Just wondering...
We had a couple of threads lately along the lines of “your favorite psy style” or “your signature sound”. They were interesting to read, but they didn’t help me figure out this mystery I’d call a “magnetic” album. It’s when you keep on coming back regularly to the same record – for no general reason.

Oftentimes you’d like an album because it’s a good representation of your favorite style of music. Or it’s the kind of sound you would like to produce (or already are producing). Or it comes from your favorite artist. Or maybe this particular album is associated with something special in your life (I don’t know, maybe it played at your prom or your wedding).

But this is not what I am talking about. What if you never heard this album until a few months ago, you never heard about its author before, it’s probably not the kind of sound you’d produce and you are not really fanatic about the sub-genre in general? It’s the album itself – and you can not figure out what it is, other than it resonates with you and you have to hear it regularly. Not necessarily every day – maybe once a week. But it’s like a chorus in the endless song that is your musical experience.

I realized that I have such a “magnetic” album. Listening to it is a special personal experience (I guess this is what people here call a journey). I barely ever listen to this subgenre, I probably will not produce anything like it, and there is no way for it to be associated with any special even in my life – it’s just the album itself “speaks” to me.

Does anybody else have a “magnetic album” like this – that you keep on coming back to for no reason other than the album itself?

YES YES YES YES YES YES

Deja Vu Fabrique is the one album that really represents something truly special to me. No other album has given me the same feeling as this. To me it is a modern day masterpiece.

Also another album that I consider a masterpiece is Jadur Madur by The Dreamtree Project. So pure and psychedelic....

Ive listened to both these albums hundreds of times and they never fail to amaze.

great topic!

Fear Factory - "Demanufacture"

it was the first CD I ever heard when it first came out that made me sit up and go "wow, there is something special about music" more than just enjoying it.

I was 15 years old n' had been following metal n' electronica fo rlike 5 years but this blew me away.

Then when they came to tour at a festival that year Burton (vocalist) bought me my first beer... I had drunk at home but never actually had someone buy me a beer... I was underage, he walked up and just said "Wanna beer with me?" and I was like to shocked to speak and he laughed and said "I'll take that as a yesd hey kid?" and bought me a beer... then we chatted for like 20 minutes before he said he better head back to the stage as they were playing in half an hour... then I was right up the front of the mosh against the fence n' he saw me and gave me a Demanufacture tshirt signed by the entire band... Fan forever haha           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Off the top of my head
Eraser vs Yojalka - first two albums
Droidlock (anything)
Paps (anything)
anything with Tommi Sirkia

there are others that I keep getting drawn back to, though I've heard a million times, but these are pretty solid.

To be honest, what I find is that it's actually the artist behind the music that I feel a certain... I guess kinship with. Like these guys could be my brothers or something. I know them and can trust them to satisfy my music craving, and that's why I return to those certain albums. Trust.

I guess it is a bond between you and the artist, in most cases. In my case I really can not find any explanation at all. It's "Daze of Our Life", and it seems quite different from other works by Filteria that I've heard. It's something about the album itself. I tried to figure it out. Now I gave up - just enjoy the album without too much analyzing why.
