ok beat agency...here's what i know...as one of the artists "supporting the hustlers" 
* i did not get paid any advance (i dont generally ask for advances - its something i should change)...and i have plenty of bookings so no, im not afraid of losing bookings (Ha??)
*they booked and paid for my flight months ago
um what else...
well actually apart from that, i dont know jack shit...why would you think artists would have more idea what the deal is with this mess than anyone else??

forgive me for not jumping on the hate band wagon...but I don't see the world in black and white and I prefer to speak when I feel that I have enough information...I will rather wait and see how the situation unfolds before making my own conclusion...and I also have better things to do than spew venom on forums

So its to spew venom to ask the Organizers to speak to people instead of hiding? Is it to spew venom to make people aware of that:
1. The Organizer ban, censor those who have PAID TICKETS on their Facebook page when they ask for a refund or just some info?
2. There was apparently no permission. The Organizers have not been willing to show people this so-called permission even though they have been asked to do so since MARCH 2010?
3. The organizer has a track record of blaming (Politicians, locals, made up resistance groups etc.) everybody else for his own "mistakes"?
I could go on.
I still find it very troublesome that this scenes high profiled artists almost never speak their minds when people of this scene, those who support you to be able to perform, time after time get screwed over. You are very well informed about the organizers past "hick-ups" yet you still support them and when things like this happen you chose to stay silent.
But of course that's just my 2 cents.
PS! My educated guess is when all info has been put forward and it's once and for all made clear that this organizer screwed up big time not having a permission to begin with and people haven't been paid back a penny in refunds that the artists will still stay silent. www.beatagency.dk |

the difference between your posts and the post from Detox is the difference between spewing venom and talking, you seem to have lost any sense of objectivity and chosen your side of the argument, you also assume that anyone who doesn't agree with you 100% is on Mike's side...like I said...I see the world in shades of gray, but that doesn't usually make for a very interesting flame war now does it? 
you can be sure that I will speak my mind and write a blog entry as I have always done so in the past...if you understood Croatian I would gladly send you a link to our community forums where you can read my party reviews and discussions dating back to 7+ years...I lost a few gigs as a result of speaking my mind but have no trouble sleeping either

Well yes I don't believe Mike & Co one bit. I admit it. But that's got to do with experience from the past and having friends who's been screwed over by him. So nope sorry for not trusting this guy. Also there are so many evidence against him and extremely bad behavior from his side toward the local Hotel owner + other islanders on the Mafia Blog. And then of course the fact that he or his team choose to ban, censor and delete peoples posts on their Facegroup page. People have PAID so Mike & Co have been able to have a very long Holiday swimming with Whale Sharks etc.
No you are right. I do not trust this person one single bit and I am flabbergasted that the artists still support this person.
I am happy you are one of the very very few artists that will speak his mind. I just hope it will be in English and no Croatian as the international community need to be enlightened. And who best than by the artists who know what goes on behind the scenes

I doubt that I am the only one, you have Tim's thoughts above, Robin has also spoken her mind on Facebook and I am sure many more will say what they know...but as Tim said, we don't know much more than you do
after all I have not spent the last 6-7 months in Tanzania, meeting locals, asking for permits etc. ...so I don't have tons of behind the scenes info...and even if I did have confidential information that I was trusted with I surely would not disclose it in public in the same manner you wouldn't give out your credit card info to someone...I can only offer my interpretation of what has happened...but I will not do that before everything plays out
I'm glad that you admit not trusting him, you have your own experience and that's fine...I can only talk from my own which is what I intend to do...in English

I think Robin's got a lot of explaining to do to the UK people when she finally set foot on UK soil again after going off to play as a DJ leaving everybody in UK with no info whatsoever. She is the official PR & Marketing person for the whole Festival and she decide to go off on a 4 day Holiday instead of helping people in UK to sort out the mess. I haven't talked to one person from UK who is not extremely pissed off with her.
Try investigate a little. Go visit the Facebook page and see the amount of bull they write when people complain about being censored. Then they say they only censor those who have been out to "destroy" their festival. Well I never was out to destroy it. I just asked reasonable questions and so did many other people too.. All got censored!!! Also those who have paid money to go to Mafia.
Go to the blog where a Hotel owner and other from the Island put Mike & Co to the wall asking for the permission (since march). Mike & Co.s response is paranoid and extremely rude.

I have been blocked by both Mike Akida and Robin Triskele. I have had ALL my posts that were made only after the announcement of the cancellation deleted.
I had never made any sort of a comment good or bad anywhere concerning these people or this festival before the cancellation of Mafia Island, also I had never had a bad word to say about Robin, who I once thought of as a mate, nor a bad word to say about Mike Akida who I knew nothing about until this disaster he has created and when I started researching him.
Basically MDF are acting like Big Brother and trying to control the media.
A few days ago a group of new members joined Psymusic forum and tried to make people stop talking about the problems and wouldnt stop whining up until it was pointed out to them that at that place they didnt have access to a delete and block button and we are allowed to discuss matters that are important without having to worry that those points might be censored out of existence and removed from the eyes of people who have a right to know.

It's clear that nothing is going to be achieved by debating (bickering?) amongst ourselves.
We can speculate all we like, but in the end it boils down to the evidence and proof we are all waiting for.
I hope for many people's sakes, this is not sneaky pulled by mike and co. Innocent until proven guilty in my eyes. But let us wait and see..
regardless of the outcome, the whole organisation of this festival was indeed less than kosher.

On the contrary what we achieve is that people get informed!!! No not by the organizer who still is 100% silent and still censor people on facebook when they ask for a refund or some information.
I dont get people like you who seem to prefer silence instead of making people aware of that the organizer has gone into hiding!
Its now been 5 days since the cancellation and nothing has been said or done by the organizer. Except as I mentioned his daily censorship when paying costumers dare to ask him to face the music!

Why isn't it blindingly obvious to everyone that IF there was ANY proof that the necessary permissions and permits had originally been granted, then copies would have been posted here, or elsewhere, already ! ? I believe in giving the benefit of the doubt, but it's now a week since the official cancellation. If the organisers had any proof, they would have posted it !
Wake up people ! ! ! ! There is nothing else to say on this point. |

You angry guys, you just have to make a stone-throwing championship, you're so kool and good-looking, taking your accusing positions.
I lose my money for early fest tickets (I have no illusion of returning it, as it's obviously been already spent), but I want to send a ray of hope for the orgs, who are in such a desperate situation now. I remember very well that AMAZING Samothrakis, and I'm pretty sure they couldn't be _just_ a matter of money-hunting.
Come on! Open your eyes, these licences are no more than a piece of shit in corrupted states (of Africa). It's a bad luck.

Mikes Statement
In recent weeks, coordinated attacks by politicians and para-political bodies and also by dark nuclei and competitors in Tanzania have contributed to the situation we all now find ourselves in. These attacks, designed to discredit the festival and to present the participants as monsters, addicts, homosexuals and to show the organizers of the festival as a corruption of society and youth. On the pretext of homosexuality and the destruction of the environment (although the organization applied a huge Sustainability Project to preserve the natural environment of Mafia and was taking part in the "Greener Festival Awards" for this reason), this nucleus tried to destroy the base created by the organizers together with the local authorities of Mafia and the Central Government for the smooth running of the festival.
In a political sensitive time, and taking advantage of the ignorance of many politicians with regards the organization of such festivals, the enemies of freedom and development decided to hit below the waist. With a series of letters to various institutions of central government, mafia authorities and other parliament members (MPs), they persistently tried to stop the festival and unfortunately made it, based finally on the religious state of most people of Tanzania and the overlapping slightly of a major religious event (even though that was never been a problem for the authorities before). The National Arts Council (BASATA), responsible for the authorization of all events taking place in Tanzania, were asked to answer to Parliament for its support for the festival, although the benefits of Tanzania, Mafia and people are non-questionable. This is precisely the reason the Tanzanian authorities originally embraced the principle of the festival and provided a green light for us to proceed, acknowledging the benefits of MDF. Unfortunately, as a result of the ill-intended efforts of the aforementioned groups, extreme racism and xenophobia have been created, and the relevant authorities of Tanzania and particularly the National Art Council (Basata) decided to revoke our local license that had been issued for the Mafia Dance Festival.
These people have even launched a website saying that they will move with the above mention actions in order to stop the festival and now the same people thru blogs etc, try to convince all of you that this was a scam! Remember, these people are not locals but rich colonials acting on their own intrerest and definaltely not on behalf of the local society. Since according to them this festival was never supposed to happen and we all “know” that for months now, they were attacking us and doing campaings in Mafia villages (where they failed big time), in internet and in parliament. Do u attack something that doesnt exist and is a scam? Please think!
All residents of Mafia expected the festival with great anticipation, because this would be something that will change and significantly improve their lives.The landowners of the area, where the festival would be held, an area located between the villages Kanga and Bweni, north of Mafia, had to deliver early to Mafia authorities all the documents of ownership property and area consent for the organization of the land. All preparations were in the final stages of completion ie. transportation, catering, sound, deco, crew, generators, safari tents (etc etc) and most importantly the safety of all the participants. The production team of the festival is in Tanzania since December 2009 along with the organizers of the festival and numerous members of the production crew arrived June 2010 to work at the venue of the festival.
Even the sound system has been shipped from South Africa a few weeks ago and its on the way to Tanzania! Materials, contructions etc are all at Mafia Island, and were ready to be transport to the site, so that together with the final preparations (wc,showers) we would be ready to open the gates on 27 july. We will be releasing pictures from the venue, crew, materials etc. Decoration and almost all the festival gear is inside the container that is coming from SA (incl sound) and wil arrive in Dar es Salaam soon, if we dont find a way to stop it in another port before Tanzania. Do u believe we would do all that if the festival was a scam? Please think that this sounds like a bad joke!
I want you to know that all this happened in the last 2 weeks and they called us in BASATA office to announce the cancelation only last Monday. We notified you, the valued participant within 48 hours of the decision, this is clearly not the actions of someone trying to perpetuate a scam.
