Now for the reason why we are so concerned about this – at this time (just 5months from the day it is supposed to start) absolutely no preparations (let alone construction) have been made for visitors – no accommodation or shelter of any kind, cooking and eating facilities, ablutions blocks and waste disposal, medical and emergency care, safety and security. Nor have the organizers even chosen a site on Mafia Island at which to hold this event !

I am baffled, folks...
Now I just wish that MDF org's show us the scan of the permits already so that we can definitely know that this wasn't a scam in the first place...

The people behind MDF would rather edit out peoples comments on their facebook pages and then block that persons account.
But I suppose they would realise that if they were REALLY clever that person might just have a second account and still be able to view and post about what has been going on and that Mike and his so called team would rather than sort out the issues raised find it easier to try to silence people with censorship.
I will now say my mind
Mike and his team are nothing more than common thieves and conmen and if they are innocent of the claim then sue my arse for libeling you.
When you they dont do this because what I am sayng is the truth then everybody else will see that they are nothing more than grown men who wouldnt think twice but to steal the candy from a childs hand and then to have no guilt over it.
What complete arseholes these people are.

very sorry to hear about this.....
i really dont know if this festival was a fake....
but i know being an ambassador i am under intense pressure from the ppl who bought the tickets off me...
i hope the organisers look into refunds as early as possible so we could pay back the ppl who have purchased deir tickets.

Hello friends,
i am (and the team) in a terrible situation, as you can imagine, with the cancelation of this festival. i am writing to you this letter as i need to explain some things and get the pressure out of you (as much as possible) and also to have information to communicate to people. As most of you know, i am based in Tanzania (together with other local and international members of the team) since December 2009, working hard to make this dream reality. I want you to know, that we will do anything in our hand to turn this around and make the people understand that this was never a scam or anything like this. We have been invested our time, money (and personal life) for more than a year now to organize this festival and we wil work even more to turn this around. we have been in co-operation and giving services with diffferent travel agents for a long time now for accomodation,tarsnport, safari and other srvices with different providers as a small proof that not anyone can be in the scam!!. Vortex production from south africa (6 people team) are in tanzania since june (ad visit many times uring the proceess) and are still at mafia island with other few memebrs of the mdf team. even the sound system has been shipped from south africa, few weeks ago and its on the way to Tanzania! materials, contructions etc are all at mafia island, in various places were we were making them (bars,husks etc) and were almost ready to be transport in site so together with the final preparations (wc,showers) we would be ready to open the gates at 27 july. we wil also release pictures from the venue. decoration and almost all the festival gear is inside the container that is coming from SA (incl sound) and wil arrive in Dar es Salaam soon, if we dont find a way to stop it in another port before tanzania. we have invested more than 300.000 euro for this project, when the ticket sales at this stage where 1500 tickets (about 200.000 income not delivered 100% to us as in, its included 3rd period sales which you have the monies and also money from other periods that havent delivered to us yet). people speak about scam, but have no clue what is at stake here even for our personal safety in Tanzania now.
we believe that after releasing all the nessasery details about the organization of the festival, people will really understand what happened here. what some people cant understand, that in situations like this, things cannot happen overnight or they cant understand that 10 members of the internantional production team is still in Tanzania, in a very sensitive time. here is where we need your help, in order to let the people know, that we are here and we gonna solve this matter, one way or another...myself nd org, what we say or write must be very very carefull at this point, as we are still in Tanzania and that is the reason we dont say much yet. we want to go out of this country safe, in order to be able to help ourselves and the others! very soon we will release many info for things to be more clear. Please bare with me and please forwrd me any inquiry you have for refunds, as we will deal with the ticket holders direct. for the story: most of you already know from our statement what happened. we choosed to write the truth than any other story as we believe that we are victims in this story , like anyone else. a specific hotelier of mafia (he has a blog called mafia island, fighting us with lies months now) and together with his friends and his associates, have been sending letters to tanzanian MPs, even in european union, as we here now, in order to stop this festival and present it as an invesion of 3000 homosexuals and many other things, that seem funny in europe but means a lot in a muslim society. therefore, the parliament asked from the BASATA chairman (like minister of culture), to present himself and explain why he is licecencing and supporting this corrupted festival. they have been sending papers saying that we are banned from greece and many other ridiculous things, together with very insulting data about out local partners, all lies. BASATA had to stop the festival in the fear of the political consequences.. we believe that the minister of culture cancelled us with out logic or legal way, as all this is complete bullshit and in vain, just becuase some politicians has been affected by these lies.in any case, we know who has done that and we wil act accordingly. the hotelier in mafia and his so called "friends of mafia island" even did campaigns in the villages close to the festival venue to stop it, but he wasnt aware that we had written permissions from the local community. when he failled in every legal way , he hit us under the belt..i want you to know that all this happened the last 2 weeks and they called us in BASATA office to announce the cancelation on monday. the attacking group, did everything now on purpose, as they knew that the reaction time would be to little to save it. he proved clearly to me, that he wnated to clearly fuck all of us and customers too, as he could stop it before (as it seems, they could) but they let it to come here and do it now to make more harm than ever to everyone inlolved and make sure not even a last attempt would be possible.
of course, we have the responsibility for our people and thats why we are here to solve the situation. we have many plans going on about refunds, swapping tickets with other festivals and even organizing various small festivals (in the next 2 monts) in different countries where the ticket holders (if they choose to) they will be able to enter for free with their mafia tickets and much more. we also check the possibility of hosting some parties in tanzania for people that wil come anyway...more to be said for everything. according to our ticket terms and conditions, our ambassadors are not liable or responsible for any of this, and not for ticket refunds. i want to thank all of you for your unconditional support and love. we are family after all. soon we wil be in touch again.

Instead of this long whining song accusing Politicians, locals, unnamed groups it would suit you to take some responsibility on your own shoulders.
Why don't you just publish the permission you keep telling everybody you got? You have been asked to publish it since March 2010 and yet you do nothing but talking, talking and talking.
And then pay back people NOW instead of hiding behind your Force Majeure 
And stop censoring/deleting peoples complaints on your Facebook. People who have nothing but good intentions would never do that!!!!
I still believe the locals and not your petty excuses!

Please scan and publish the documents giving you permission to hold the festival.
This will shut up all of your critics.
Unless you do that, it will just get worse.

Beat Agency, you're sitting in a very comfortable and safe position to throw stones.
They are in a tricky predicament with threats of xenophobia being very real. I'm not sure of your nationality, but I have seen xenophobia with my own eyes here in SA. It's certainly very real and more often than not, fatal.
I know for a fact that the SA crews left a few weeks ago to set up (I know three of them personally), and sent containers of equipment. This to me all seems too legit. Why would they organise a scam in which they themselves stand to lose not only thousands of euro's, but at this point their lives as well? Third world authorities think nothing of changing their minds and pulling sneaky moves for their own benefit, to the great detriment of others.
Perhaps it's time to put those personal vendetta's aside and wait patiently for the story to unfold, rather than throw stones. You stubbornly refusing to have an open mind.
As for the censorship - should they allow every tom dick and harry to flame them publicly at the risk of false rumours starting? I have read some very untrue, nasty things being said that certainly deserved censorship.
Mike for gods sake, publish that permission as soon as you get a chance.

Tizzy I do not have any personal vendetta whatsoever. I just want the organizers to live up to their responsibility and once and for all proof they are not lying. They have been asked since March to provide people with a scanned Permission to show everybody they are telling the truth. Instead they blame everyone else but themselves and silence people who complain on their facebook page. People who have paid for tickets!!!
We the Community have every right to ask questions. Without these question this scene would go down the drain and you would very fast see a scene run by scumbags and hustlers. And believe me. As an artist in this scene since 1994 I have seen plenty of those people.
All we want is the organizer to live up to their responsibility and stop blame everybody else for their own mistakes and pay back the money and show us proof that they indeed had a permission.
How hard can it be to scan it and publish it? ;Mike & Co. have been asked to publish it since March. Every time someone asked them they were met with attacks. Does that sound like an organizer you can trust?

So Tizzy waht you are saying is Mike tried to organise a ferstival in a country that is inherently unsafe for the type of people who would attend?
That goes beyond a scam and from the way you paint it of peoples personal security being at risk it would appear the festival could have quite easily put people life at risk.
Thats goes way beyond stupidity and a scam.

let me correct you here...there was in fact a festival that was canceled because of the church, which basically said it was a satanist gathering...however that was not in Croatia but in Bosnia and Herzegovina...it was called Rumpeltänzchen and was organized by a foreign crew
Underwater Overground was a festival held in Croatia for 4 years in a row, I was part of the production crew and I can safely say that all 4 were held as I'm sure many people remember  We had the biggest issues on the second one because it was on an island and there was backlash from some of the local camp owners who made up pretty crazy and funny lies but other than that it went fine.
in any case this entire situation reminds me a bit of the same problems you can run in here when trying to organize something, there were in fact a few smaller events canceled in Croatia over the last 10-15 years but nothing as big...I'd like to say a lot more on the subject but I'd be taking the topic in a different direction, and also I just came back from a very nice trance festival on the coast that went super smooth with no problems at all
I'd love to say a bit more regarding mafia but I prefer to wait until this entire thing unfolds

I find it very odd that no artist will say a word about this disgrace and scam. Where are all the artists that was supposed to play and why haven't they said a word yet? Did you get advances and if yes are you willing to pay them back to compensate people? If you did not get any advances why did you still say yes to play? Afraid of loosing bookings? People are being silenced on MDF's Facebook page when they ask for money back or any little news. Instead they are met with total silence, deleted posts and banned from the facebook page.
And all info since the cancellation has been accusing politicians (not a new one from Mike & Co.), some local Hotel owner (who has made a lot of valid points) and to pull up their terms and Force majeure which says loud and clear NO REFUNDS.
So where are the artists that seem to keep supporting these hustlers? It's time you speak up instead of hiding your heads in the sand!
And last. If the artists stopped supporting these hustlers the scene would be very different!
